JFK APOLOGISES TO CHIEF JUSTICE AFTER SUPREME COURT SHOWDOWN.

Counsel for the All People’s Congress (APC), Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara (JFK), has publicly apologised to Chief Justice Komba Kamanda and the Supreme Court following a heated exchange during yesterday’s constitutional hearing.

At today’s resumption of proceedings, after a two-hour recess, Chief Justice Kamanda demanded an unreserved apology from JFK over his conduct, warning that failure to do so could result in contempt proceedings and a possible ban from appearing before the Supreme Court.

The Chief Justice said he had deliberately refrained from interrupting yesterday’s proceedings but decided to address the matter after reportedly hearing an interview in which JFK defended his conduct as acceptable within Sierra Leone’s adversarial legal system.
JFK subsequently apologised to the Chief Justice and the Supreme Court, explaining that his actions were undertaken in the interest of his client and in defence of the Constitution.
Following the apology, the Chief Justice stood the Court down for 15 minutes, saying the Court would respond to the apology upon its return.

The confrontation reportedly followed a dispute over documents filed by the Attorney-General’s Office. JFK had challenged the filing of key documents, including a Statement of Case, arguing that they had not been properly filed.

Chief Justice Kamanda later reminded counsel that the Supreme Court is an institution founded on independence, integrity and the rule of lawβ€”not a political forum.
The Court is now expected to respond to JFK’s apology.

The dead body of an unidentified woman has reportedly been discovered earlier this morning at WMA Field in the Bolima Community, Waterloo.

According to information from the scene, the woman was found partially unclothed, with her trousers, skirt and underwear reportedly missing. There are also concerns that she may have been sexually assaulted and possibly strangled, although the exact cause and circumstances surrounding her death have not yet been officially confirmed.

Among the items reportedly found at the scene are a bag, clothing and ladies' cosmetics, which could potentially assist authorities in identifying the deceased.
