Branded merchandise is changing — and the best client conversations are changing with it.
Right now, I’m seeing six themes creating the most opportunity:
1. Canadian sourcing is becoming more relevant.
With ongoing trade uncertainty, more organizations are asking where products are made, decorated and shipped from.
2. Sustainability is moving beyond “recycled.”
Clients increasingly want to understand materials, certifications, durability and supply-chain transparency.
3. Personalization is becoming the experience.
Names, locations, achievements and recipient choice can turn a simple product into something far more memorable.
4. Premium utility is winning.
Useful lifestyle products — drinkware, home goods, food, wellness and travel items — are often creating more impact than traditional giveaways.
5. Digital integration makes merchandise measurable.
QR codes, landing pages, redemption programs and personalized experiences can connect physical merchandise directly to campaign results.
6. Wellness gifting continues to grow.
Products that support comfort, recovery, hydration, downtime and everyday wellbeing are becoming increasingly relevant for employee and client programs.
The bigger shift?
Clients are no longer just asking, “What product should we buy?”
The better question is:
“What do we want the recipient to think, feel or do after receiving it?”
That is where branded merchandise becomes a marketing strategy instead of simply another item with a logo.
If you are planning an employee program, client campaign, event, recognition initiative or year-end gift, these are the conversations worth having before any action is taken.
