Every veteran has a distinct story to tell and unique experiences to share but they all have one thing in common – they have all accepted considerable risks and hardships and time away from loved ones for the honour of serving their country. Therefore, remembrance is one of the ways we make a difference in a veteran’s life. In Branch 288, we have 92 members who identify as veterans. This ongoing article will introduce you to the Royal Canadian Legion (RCL), Branch 288 Westbank veterans who wish to participate.

In our fifth installment, meet David Gerald Morrison. David first joined the Reserve on 16 June 1953 as an Army Artilleryman. In May of 1954, he transferred to the Regular Force and this time joined the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN). He spent 14 years sailing with her Majesty's ships, including minesweepers and destroyers. In 1962, he was stationed on Her Majesty's Canadian Ship (HMCS) Fraser, where he was the second in command of the Sonar Branch. His most memorable moment of his career came when he was stationed on the west side of the Panama Canal during the Cuban missile crisis. Davide retired from the RCN on 20 March 1968 as a Sailor 1st Class.
