Slice then freeze ‘em

My partner made bagels 🥯 this weekend, her first attempt, and they turned out great!

I’m working on a few small projects to lessen the off-cut pile. I purchased a couple dozen bread knife blades online, they are cheap but super sharp and should be handled with care. Install them with a little spring by clamping end-to-end so that the blade is under some tension.

Finally got around to building a shed, freeing up much space in my workshop. Followed the rule of making it 2’ longer and wider than you need.
One night we set the tent inside and watched a movie with the kids.
I got stranded on the roof after accidentally knocking the ladder down, thanks to kind neighbours for saving me!
And thanks, Rich, for the custom keychain!

A lot of people have been asking me for deck pics, here they are finally!
We started on this project in early May, with 7 consecutive weekends of rain, progress was slow. We extended the deck by 4’ and added steps around the perimeter. It’s a much more inviting space now.

Collaborative project was completed today. A writing desk for a local museum with early 19th century Shaker/Quaker design inspiration. I’ll follow up with another post and more details. For now, I’m just thrilled that it was finished on time considering that one of the legs blew out a few weeks back (thanks David for thinking to make an extra!).

Cherry with two coats of Danish oil, another coat of wiping varnish will be applied on delivery.
I left the gaps in the dovetails; they’re functionally very tight.

My partner is deeply embarrassed at the state of our deck. That’s next on the list…

I made one of those Milkman Workbenches mostly for fun but also because got a new toy to make wooden screws with. Thanks for the help, Rich! I made the handles out of hornbeam, also from Rich, what a generous friend. Such a nice wood to work with, quite dense too.

This set of Tuft’s Cove replica Smokestacks had some unexpected disease which led to tear-out while turning on the middle stack. I took it as a design opportunity, it has a burnt look. I paired it with a live-edge walnut base.
