Designing for Tara's merch line "Bloom Collective" meant asking what looks like when it leaves the studio. The answer was the same as always. Elegant yet approachable. Typography that has presence without being loud.

Bloom Collective was a chance to bring a little more whimsy into the PSF world. The floral illustrations do exactly that. Hand-drawn and alive, but still refined. Still luxury. The kind of detail that adds warmth without tipping into cutesy.

Your portfolio page isn't just a gallery of your favourite projects. It's your best closer!

If you're a photographer, interior designer, brand designer (that's me!), or any other creative service provider and your portfolio is just a grid of pretty images, you're missing the thing that pushes someone from "I'm interested" to "I need to book her."

Here's what a portfolio project that converts actually looks like:

01: The problem → the gap they couldn't close on their own (and why they needed you!)
02: Your approach → the thinking behind your decisions and what your expertise brought to the table
03: The outcome → what changed and why it actually solved their problem
04: A glowing testimonial → straight from the client confirming you delivered (screenshots are great social proof here!)
05: Before & Afters → visual proof of the transformation, not just the end result
06: Final gallery → the best images of the finished work, the ones that stop the scroll

And that, my friends, is a formula to a portfolio project that puts in the WORK (so you don't have to!!).

When you give people context around your work, you're not just showing what you made. You're showing how you think, how you solve problems, and why hiring you is worth every penny.

I always recommend having at least 6 projects on your site so you can demonstrate range. Not the same type of project on repeat but different challenges, different solutions, and different proof that you show up no matter what walks through the door.

A picture's worth a thousand words, but ultimately the words are what do the selling.

P.s. I do practice what I preach!! You can see exactly how I break mine down over on my portfolio, check the link in my bio or go to hirayadesign.com/portfolio

It’s AI slop an we can smell it a mile away, girly pop 🫣

You’re unfortunately ruining your brand image every time you post a graphic created by ChatGPT. Sorry to say.

And it’s not just designers who can tell… your clients can tell, too 👀

It’s uninspired, looks like every other graphic, and they rarely if ever actually represent *your* brand.

As much as people think that AI is replacing jobs… I will die on the hill that human-made content will outperform AI generated content 10/10 times.

That’s not to say that AI doesn’t serve a purpose in the business space. But for things meant to be your differentiating factor like branding and design? Absolutely the f*ck not 🤠

Do you use AI in your business?

Answering the top 4 questions I get from people thinking about hiring a brand designer (yes, I accidentally said 3 lol)

🔘 How long does it take?
🔘 Do you offer just a logo?
🔘 What’s your process like?
🔘 How much does it cost?

Still have questions? Drop them below or send me a DM!

After 3 months, I’ve successfully done my first watch through of alllll 10 seasons of Vanderpump Rules! It’s been a roller coaster and I have many thoughts — shout out to Reddit episode discussion boards for keeping me company 🤪

But in the meantime while we wait for season 11, here’s how my designer brain imagines the female cast as fonts 🤓

Who’s your fav cast member? I miss my girl , her confessionals were pure dark comedy gold

“I didn’t want to work 9-5, so I quit my job to run my own business and now I work 24/7” is an adage I’ve become very familiar with 🤠

Biz owners, how’s your time management?

Pantone just announced 'Cloud Dancer' as their 2026 Colour of the Year.

For the first time ever, they chose white. Colour me confused (lol, see what I did there??).

I thought we were moving away from white/beige/grey everything. The past few years felt bolder, more saturated. So this feels... safe? A tad boring, even?

Plus is white even *really* a colour?

Look, I love using white in my work just as much as the next person. I regularly will incorporate it in my colour palettes and web design. It creates breathing room and lets bold colours shine. But crowning it *Colour* of the Year feels like Pantone chose the one shade that works with everything and offends no one.

Here's your reminder: you don't need to follow what Pantone says. If everyone's going minimal, maybe your move is bold and saturated.

Make sure your brand colours feel like you:grounded in strategy, not just trends.

What's your take? Into this choice or were you hoping for something with more personality?

"Always create more than you consume."

It's such a good reminder, especially for us creative service providers who can easily get stuck in consumption mode (guilty as charged 👀)

But scrolling won't build your business. Creating will.

And I don't just mean any creation – I mean the kind that moves your business forward. The brand that finally feels aligned. The website that attracts your dream clients while you sleep. The visual identity that makes you feel confident hitting "post."

That's the creation that *counts*.

So if you've been stuck in consumption mode lately, this is your sign to channel that energy back into building something meaningful for your business.

Let's make it happen – my DMs are always open to chat about how we can bring your vision to life!
