Your portfolio page isn't just a gallery of your favourite projects. It's your best closer!
If you're a photographer, interior designer, brand designer (that's me!), or any other creative service provider and your portfolio is just a grid of pretty images, you're missing the thing that pushes someone from "I'm interested" to "I need to book her."
Here's what a portfolio project that converts actually looks like:
01: The problem → the gap they couldn't close on their own (and why they needed you!)
02: Your approach → the thinking behind your decisions and what your expertise brought to the table
03: The outcome → what changed and why it actually solved their problem
04: A glowing testimonial → straight from the client confirming you delivered (screenshots are great social proof here!)
05: Before & Afters → visual proof of the transformation, not just the end result
06: Final gallery → the best images of the finished work, the ones that stop the scroll
And that, my friends, is a formula to a portfolio project that puts in the WORK (so you don't have to!!).
When you give people context around your work, you're not just showing what you made. You're showing how you think, how you solve problems, and why hiring you is worth every penny.
I always recommend having at least 6 projects on your site so you can demonstrate range. Not the same type of project on repeat but different challenges, different solutions, and different proof that you show up no matter what walks through the door.
A picture's worth a thousand words, but ultimately the words are what do the selling.
P.s. I do practice what I preach!! You can see exactly how I break mine down over on my portfolio, check the link in my bio or go to hirayadesign.com/portfolio
