A quick throwback to Summer Sessions! It’s hard to believe that the magic that happened was exactly a month ago today. 😅🌱

This event linked the past, present and future of HIMMAT MEDIA with community – new and old – that dares to dream and show up for the work it takes to achieve them 💐✨

Not only did we get a chance to showcase our beloved projects of the past, we also welcomed in two new programmes, Positive Racial Profiling and Personal Platitudes under our newly launched Incubator Programme. Summer Sessions also marked the end of DJ’s practicum with us! ✨🌞

✨ Introducing our new series: Positive Racial Profiling (PeRP). We’re shining a light on racialized creatives and business pros, reclaiming their identities with a playful edge. 😄

Their stories are a blend of polished finesse and raw grit, fueled by deep passion and resilience. They’re breaking barriers, challenging norms, and staying true to themselves while uplifting their communities. 👏🏽

Man oh man, our hearts are so full… we’re having a hard time putting the vibe of Summer Sessions tonight into words! 🌞🌻🌱

What went from the intention of sharing what’s new at Himmat and putting our unique stank on the daunting concept of networking in the new age quickly turned into an amalgamation of, as Ragini aptly put, celebrating friends and family, new and old, who dare to live out a dream. We are floored! 🌻

THANK YOU to everyone who showed out — friends, family, new friends, and new peers. 🥳✨

Our entire HIMMAT team came together under one roof (and in one country) for the first time at the first annual Sundar Prize Film Festival 🎬🎬🤍

Our growing team has been working with the festival in so many different capacities. We had an absolute blast in each role and are so grateful to be part of such a talented and skilled larger team! 💥

New Article Alert: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi is currently the world’s most watched Indian series. In a traditional sense, it holds all the glory of SLB’s signature style of creating moving paintings in star studded cinema.

In all its criticisms, Heeramandi goes beyond the traditional dynamic of woman vs woman and holds a unique and powerful feminine perspective on rebellion, social dynamics and gendered roles in society. What emerges is a powerful narrative reflective of the struggles of women’s liberation in India and across the diaspora today.

This film is a love letter from SLB and the stars to brown women who still exist in a society that doesn’t think very highly of us almost a century post Partition.

The Himmat Exhibit turns 5 years old today! 🎉

Himmat: Celebrating the Women Around Us was conceptualised to originally deconstruct the identities of every day South Asian women – to document the trials and tribulations of immigrant South Asian women who grew up and lived in the Lower Mainland essentially decades before the current social justice, intersectional feminist and antiracism movements that have emerged during our present time.

A quick social media call emerged into the starting of a powerful storytelling campaign that not only delineates many underrepresented aspects of the immigrant story, but also addresses key issues in South Asian microcultures. We have so much we owe to the women we come from, including the fun fact that the concept and word “himmat” is originally rooted in the feminine in its Arabic origins.

We stand on the shoulders of giants. And we are incredibly lucky to celebrate the strength and tenacity of the women around us.

One journal article and one Instagram post won’t cover this, but besides our very apparent influence from Kendrick Lamar’s cultural commentary as an company, we gotta give props to the lyrical genius behind euphoria, which is definitely more than a diss track.

At the least, this one makes us think about the types of people we normalise in positions of influence
