Deloitte just published their 2026 Media & Entertainment Industry Outlook. We read it. Then read it again.

Their verdict on where the industry is heading is blunt: own audience intelligence and the tech that supports it. Not “consider investing in.” Own it.

The data exists. It always has. What’s been missing is the infrastructure to aggregate it, interpret it, and act on it. For too long, audience intelligence that sits outside traditional ratings and box office has been treated as secondary. That’s the problem we built ScreenMiner to fix.

We’ve written up our take on what Deloitte got exactly right – and what it means for creators, broadcasters, and studios right now.

At this year’s Whistler Film Festival, Moyra Rodger (CEO, Magnify Digital) and Stephanie Wilson Chapin (Strategic Partner Lead, YouTube) led a lively myth-busting session about YouTube best practices. A few of our favourites:
49% of Canadians discover TV shows after watching content on YouTube

Publishing your content on other social platforms can actually help with discovery, not harm it
The data attached to your video is just as important as the video itself.

Were you at the festival or following along? Drop a comment and tell us what stood out to you!

Remember the Big Fall TV Campaigns?

Networks poured millions into September launches, billboards, trailers, Fall launch compilations, all aiming to drive instant water-cooler hits. Some titles became must-watch TV. Others quietly disappeared after Christmas.

Today, audiences are hungry for great content year-round. And it’s not about a single burst of hype. Whether you’re releasing a series, special, short or feature film, you need a planned rhythm that keeps audiences engaged.

That means:
1. Teaser Drops- Spark interest weeks before release.
2. Bonus Content- Behind-the-scenes, Q&As, or deleted scenes that keep the feed fresh.
3. Community Touchpoints- Interactive posts, events, or watch-parties that keep conversation alive.

The difference between a launch that fades and one that lasts? How do you keep attention once the premiere buzz is over?

The Premiere is a Moment. What You Do Next is the Strategy.

A premiere is an event, not an audience strategy. Without follow-up, your film can vanish once the credits roll.

Keep building by:
👉Targeting regions and communities most responsive to your screening
👉 Building partnerships while your name’s hot
👉 Planning your next release beat before the premiere happens

Festivals are platforms. What you do afterward determines how far your reach extends.

Turn Festival Content into Digital Assets

Every festival moment is a marketing opportunity: Q&As, standing ovations, press interviews, candid shots. But in the buzz of the event, it’s easy to get caught up and miss the chance to turn those moments into long-term audience growth.

Plan to capture and repackage:
🎥 Short clips for Reels and TikTok
🖼️ Quote cards from audience reactions
📰 Press pulls for social proof

Festivals can’t guarantee discoverability, but they can deliver shiny assets that will help keep your content plan sparkling long after the closing night.

How to Turn Festival Buzz Into Year-Round Audience Growth

Festivals create buzz. Buzz fades. Without a plan, your audience can vanish faster than the closing night party.

Extend the life of your film by:
1. Building a mailing list during your run
2. Scheduling content drops for the months after
3. Using audience feedback to tailor your digital rollout

Don’t treat your festival moment as the finish line; it’s just the first lap.

Your Film’s in a Major Festival. So Why Can’t Anyone Find It?

Big festivals can be a double-edged sword. They’re great for credibility, but with hundreds of titles premiering, standing out is hard.

Festivals aren’t automatic audience-building machines. Without intentional audience development, your film can disappear into the lineup.

Three ways to make your festival run count:
1. Seed Your Audience Early- Identify and engage communities aligned with your film before the festival. Build anticipation, not just awareness.
2. Work the Festival’s Channels- Secure placement in high-traffic spots like email blasts, social takeovers, and sidebar programs.
3. Capture On-the-Ground Reactions- Use audience and industry feedback during the run to shape outreach for future screenings, digital release, or funding pitches.

A festival premiere is a platform. Audience growth comes from what you do on and around that platform.

🎬 Producers are getting digital, fast.

From Roblox activations to building branded streaming platforms, Canadian producers are shaping their own digital strategies to boost discoverability, engagement, and revenue.

Why? Because as audiences bounce across platforms and budgets tighten, “do more with less” is the industry mantra, and digital is where the opportunity lies.

Examples in action👇🏼

Shaftesbury launched Macy Roblox, driving 178M impressions and 49,000 game play hours to support Macy Murdoch on CBC.

Trilight Entertainment is building its own streaming platform to extend content life while still leveraging theatrical and YouTube.

KOTV doubled down on TikTok and YouTube with Kamikazes!, translating into 15M+ combined views.

Blue Ant Studios scaled from 2 to 14 YouTube channels, growing audiences for Ghosting with Luke Hutchie and Matthew Finlan while supporting CBC Gem.

🗝️ The takeaway? Digital isn’t an add-on anymore, it’s central. From gaming activations to TikTok clips to CTV-focused YouTube growth, producers are leading the charge, building sustainable, audience-first strategies that amplify their IP across platforms.

Want to craft a digital strategy that actually drives viewers to your series, film, or channel?
