From the Dockyards to Fully Digital
In April, we officially closed the doors to our Vancouver office and embraced something we’ve been living for the last few years—a fully remote 1UP Digital.
Our office journey started in a dockyard storage/office space above the shipyard on Granville Island. Not exactly glamorous, but it was scrappy, full of grit, and it worked. We built our team, refined our services, and took pride in solving big marketing problems for our clients from that modest space.
Eventually, we moved into a more “official” office—but as our work evolved, so did the way we wanted to work.
Today, we’ve traded whiteboards and boardrooms for Zoom calls, digital dashboards, and async collaboration. But this shift isn’t just logistical—it’s strategic. Remote work gives our team greater autonomy, flexibility, and the opportunity to truly own their work.
Of course, autonomy doesn’t mean isolation. We’re doubling down on intentional engagement—from virtual team sessions to structured check-ins—so our people stay connected, aligned, and motivated. The goal? Balance freedom with accountability and trust with results.
This is a big milestone for us, but it's also just the beginning. We believe the future of agency work isn’t about where you work—it’s about how well your team works together, wherever they are.
To other leaders navigating the shift to remote: What’s been your biggest challenge—or biggest win—on the path to building a remote-first company?
