One of the coolest things about owning a business for this long is getting to grow alongside your clients.
I first worked with Sabà back in 2017 when they were one café and bistro in Fort Langley. I was 23 years old, fresh into running my own business, and they took a chance on me when not many people would have.
Fast forward 9 years, and Sabà has grown into three locations and become such a staple in the Fort Langley community.
Recently, they reached out to have me help create some of the collateral, signage, packaging, merchandise, and supporting brand pieces for the newest addition to the family,
They wanted this side of the brand to feel a little more playful and handcrafted, which led me down a path I don’t usually take: illustration.
While illustration probably isn’t the area of design I feel most confident in, something about this project made me want to lean into it and challenge myself creatively. So over the last little while, I’ve spent a lot of late nights drawing.
Between client work, toddler activities, breastfeeding, snack requests, nap times, and everything else that comes with having two little ones at home, I slowly built out an illustrated collection for the brand.
A hand-drawn map of Fort Langley featuring all three locations. Custom illustrations of each storefront. Food illustrations. Market labels. Signage. Lots of little details designed to add personality and tell the Sabà story.
This project was such a creative outlet for me. There were plenty of nights where I’d finally get both kids asleep, open my iPad, and lose track of time drawing pizza slices, storefronts, and little details for the market labels. It reminded me that even in a season filled with motherhood, it’s still important to make space for creativity.
Huge thank you to Simone and Danielle for trusting me with this piece of the project. Watching Sabà grow over the last nine years has been pretty special, and I’m grateful to still play a small role in the story. 🤍
