Today, Architect Joe Y. Wai: A Journey into the Garden was officially launched at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden with an opening ceremony and commemorative plaque unveiling.

As the Garden celebrates its 40th anniversary, we reflect on Joe Wai’s important role in bringing the Garden to life in Vancouver, while also remembering the person beyond the architecture.

Through stories shared by his family, friends, colleagues, and fellow community leaders, we learned more about his work, values, and dedication to community, bringing us closer to the question at the heart of the exhibition: Who is Joe Y. Wai?

The exhibition opens to the public from October 2 until January 31, 2027.

Come visit the Garden and discover Joe Wai’s story.

Let’s celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival 🌕 with these adorable bunnies 🐇 originating from the Jade Rabbit folklore. And challenge yourselves with some riddles.

Richmond is getting a fun and furry Mid-Autumn Festival celebration this weekend at Lansdowne Centre.

Taking place Saturday, September 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the event will support Rabbitats Rescue Society, a local organization working to rescue and care for abandoned and feral rabbits. The celebration will also highlight the importance of responsible fostering and adoption, especially as Richmond continues to deal with abandoned rabbit populations.

New this year is bunny yoga, with all proceeds going directly toward Rabbitats’ rescue efforts. Guests can also meet and feed the rabbits, browse an artisan market, and take part in arts and crafts throughout the afternoon.

Little gardeners in action at Lansdowne Centre!🌻

Children and families from Lighthouse Youth & Women Society, along with kids from Vancouver
Premier Academy's summer camp, got their hands dirty at the Lansdowne Centre Food Garden Workshop. 🌿

🤩“What’s this plant?” “How long does it take to grow?” “Can I plant one?”, so many questions, and the gardener loved every one of them!

Kids rolled up their sleeves, planted seeds, and learned what it actually takes to grow the food we eat. 🍽

They also learned that once the vegetables are ready to harvest, they are donated to the Richmond Food Bank Society to help local families in need — a simple lesson in how something they plant today can give
back to the community tomorrow. 💚

Dig, plant, and see what’s growing! Got a curious little gardener at home? Bring them along! 🙌
