Vancouver's best bars made the list. Here is what I actually remember.

North America's 50 Best Bars came to Vancouver, and four of our own earned their place on the extended ranking. Bagheera. Meo. Laowai. Mount Pleasant Vintage and Provisions.

But rather than reposting a ranking, I went back through my camera reel and my notes to find what stayed with me — a St. Patrick's Day drink whose ingredients I can no longer recall, a Spicy Meo Marg on a warm summer evening, and a plate of smoked olives I have not stopped thinking about.

VV X BAJA EXPEDITIONS

The desert goes quiet in a way no city ever does. Not peaceful quiet. Absolute quiet. The kind that makes you aware of every breath you take and every draw of a cigar you have been saving for exactly this moment.

The Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Eye of the Shark — Cigar Aficionado's No. 1 cigar of 2017 — deserved a sky full of stars and a glass of Dalmore 12 Sherry Cask Select beside it. San Ignacio Lagoon delivered both. This is what the end of an extraordinary week looks like when you stop chasing comfort and start chasing experience.

VV X BAJA EXPEDITIONS

I named a sea turtle GubGub — after a cat I loved (RIP) — and watched the name get written into a scientific record that will follow that animal through the ocean for the rest of its life.

Later that night, fireside at The Dive Bar, I lit an Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente Natural and thought about value. The cigar costs roughly the same as the donation of $40 to the conversation group EcoTourtugas. One lasted an hour. The other sent GubGub back into the Pacific.

Some comparisons do not need a conclusion — they just need to be made.

VV X BAJA EXPEDITIONS

An hour after touching a wild gray whale in open water, I sat on the beach at San Ignacio Lagoon with a Paul Stulac Classic Blend Phantom Torpedo and nowhere else to be. No itinerary. No content to capture. Just the lagoon, the cigar, and the particular silence that follows something you cannot explain to someone who was not there.

We have turned travel into a checklist. This trip reminded me what it feels like to cross something off that actually matters — something that lives in the chest long after the flight home. The world is not waiting for us to be ready. It is simply continuing without us.

The 2026 Vancouver International Auto Show drew 139,991 attendees to the Vancouver Convention Centre, breaking its own record for the third consecutive year.

Fast & Furious star Sung Kang brought the star power, 30+ global automotive brands brought the debuts, and 3,030 people got behind the wheel of an EV or PHEV — because seeing is one thing, but driving is everything.

The 102nd edition of the show proved that Vancouver's appetite for what comes next in automotive is only growing.
