Hello friends! There are a few new faces around here, and it’s been almost a year since my last “about me” post, so I wanted to say welcome and re-introduce myself.

ICYMI 👋🏾 I’m Laurelle, though friends call me Laurie, a Vancouver-based graphic designer and illustrator. Thank you for following along on my creative journey 💜

✨ I grew up in Nanaimo and come from a family of six. Some of my fondest childhood memories include driving to Kamloops to visit my Nana and Papa (and their pool), camping in cabins on Shuswap Lake, Friday Night Round Up (a chaotic game of tag where our parents chased us on bikes while we jumped between the trampoline and picnic table to stay “safe”), and Sunday dinners with Neapolitan ice cream.

✍🏾 I’ve been designing for over 10 years and sharing my illustrations for the last six. What started as posting for fun eventually turned into launching my print shop in 2023. Since then, I’ve shared my work at 20+ markets and havebecome part of a growing community of makers and creators.

🍩 A few of my favourite things: sweet treats (especially doughnuts), cute dogs, the colour purple, sunny days, traveling to new places with my partner, a good laugh with friends, sappy romcoms, live music, and brunch (I don’t care what it is, give it all to me). These little joys often sneak into my artwork and branding, highlighting the details that make me, me.

🌿 Living in Vancouver, nature is woven into everything I create. From sunsets to flowers in the breeze, I find endless inspiration in the small moments that often become the palettes and references behind my work.

🎨 Creativity shows up in everything I do. Beyond design and illustration, I love to write, craft, dance, paint, learn pottery, and take photos… pretty much anything that lets me bring ideas to life.

So that’s a little more about me, the person behind the art and design. Thank you for being part of this growing community and supporting not just my work, but also the creative quirks, experiments, and passions that fuel it 💜

A project rooted in care, community, and change 🌿

I had the opportunity to create a series of illustrations for the Law Foundation of BC, designed for an event where attendees could engage directly with the work. The line drawings were included as colouring pages within the agenda for moments of pause and reflection, while the full-colour illustrations were used across supporting event materials.

Exploring themes of wellness, justice, and reciprocity, each piece translates complex ideas into accessible visuals. From using our voices to break barriers, to grounding ourselves in care, to nurturing community through collective action, the series highlights how change happens together.

Using bright, earthy tones and minimal compositions, the artwork balances softness with strength. A reminder that art can hold space, spark conversation, and invite people in.

Empowered Black Girl is a mentorship conference created for Black girls by Black women. Developed as an affiliate of , it was built to inspire, uplift, and empower young Black girls to embrace their identities, break barriers, and create meaningful change in their communities and beyond 🤎

The conference provides a platform for Black girls to connect and engage in empowering conversations with Black women mentors. Through workshops, mentorship, and storytelling, participants explore topics that matter to them and their communities. With the support of professionals in media, business, the arts, and beyond, mentees are encouraged to use their voices, share their perspectives, and build the confidence and skills to lead, create, and inspire change ✨

Earlier this year, we worked together to give Empowered Black Girl a refreshed look. Same, same but different. Designed to be adaptable across print, digital, and apparel, the refreshed identity strengthens recognition, builds credibility, and reinforces the organization’s mission to uplift and inspire the next generation of Black girls.
