Katharine Manson chatted with The Vancouver Sun yesterday about purposeful purchasing and how supporting local businesses is more important than ever!

Shoutout to clients, East Van Roasters and Maenam plus many more of our favourite local restaurants offering pre-made meals and condiments, grocery stores who stock local, and socially responsible artisans whose products are available through our first-choice grocery delivery and meal prep services.

B.C. saw above-average food price increases in 2020 and they are predicted to rise again in the coming year

🔥🔥 What to order in this weekend!

Scout Magazine's TAKE THIS OUT column is a weekly roundup of everything delicious in the city that is available to take home! Each week, Scout highlights a few Vancouver restaurants and gets the inside scoop on what to order to go.

Check out this week's column featuring our newest client Angus An and what to order at one of his restaurants, Maenam: Freebird Chicken Shack Asian Style salt cured roast chicken (now available for takeout exclusively at Maenam).

Also hear what's hot to go from Say Mercy, Do Chay and Bells and Whistles.

In the stressed out space between today's bubbles and tomorrow's vaccines, good take-out is increasingly easy to find.

Rachel Sanders visited the Fresh Roots Urban Farm Society team at the IIl Centro Italian Cultural Centre for CBC Vancouver last week as they prepared the Summer Harvest Boxes for the Schoolyard Harvest Dinner At-Home Edition. Fresh Roots converts school yard space into food gardens and provides educational programming to youth. The team has adapted their programs, initiatives and their fundraising efforts due to COVID-19.

Rachel talked with Interim Executive Director Alexa Pitoulis and chefs-in-residence Tasha Sawyer and TJ Conwi about Fresh Roots, its Sustainable Opportunities for Youth Leadership (SOYL) program, LunchLAB and the critical funds needed to keep these important initiatives going. Read and listen to CBC’s On The Coast 👇

Fresh Roots is a local non-profit group that teaches kids about growing and cooking food — and like others, they are adjusting to the global pandemic.

It has been an absolute pleasure working with the team at Fresh Roots Urban Farm Society spreading the word about their farm-to-home version of their annual Schoolyard Harvest Dinner, their SOYL program which empowers youth, and their Make It Sow fundraising campaign.

Please consider making a donation to help them reach their goal of $45,000 🥕🧡👉 https://freshroots.ca/schoolyard-harvest-dinner-at-home-edition-donation-campaign/

In the Name of Mom!

This Mother’s Day, consider a gift of donating meals to families in need in honour of your mom. LunchLAB: Chefs for Families offers families delicious, healthy, chef-prepared meals.

Ordering up a meal for a family in need with a donation at https://lunchlab.ca, provides nourishment and connection for moms and their families at such an uncertain time. A gift of a $50 donation will provide three days of meals for a family of four.

About LunchLAB: Chefs for Families:
Both Fresh Roots Urban Farm Society and Growing Chefs! believe food can be a catalyst for positive change and a source of joy and inspiration, even during challenging times.

With the closure of schools due to COVID-19, Fresh Roots and Growing Chefs!, working with the Vancouver School Board and a fantastic team of collaborators and supporters (including Il Centro Italian Cultural Centre, Pacific Restaurant Supply, and Ono Vancouver), quickly pivoted its innovative LunchLAB educational in-school meal program to offer students and their families delicious, healthy, chef-prepared meals out of school. These meals not only provide much-needed nourishment, but meaningful employment for chefs and kitchen professionals who would otherwise not be working. LunchLAB: Chefs for Families continues to bring comfort and enjoyment the best way chefs know how—through non-stigmatizing, tasty meals especially for those in need of a little extra help right now. LunchLAB: Chefs for Families is providing more than 5,000 meals to 260 families each week. More info at lunchlab.ca.
