For our last Pride Month Spotlight, we’re celebrating an artist who continues to shape the dance world today.

Princess Lockerooo has become one of the leading voices in the locking community, inspiring dancers around the world through her artistry, education, and love for the culture. As an openly LGBTQ+ dancer, she continues to show that dance is at its best when people feel free to express themselves and celebrate who they are—a common theme this month, have you noticed?

One of the world’s leading ambassadors of locking. She’s dedicated her career to preserving and teaching the original foundations, history, and culture of locking to dancers around the globe.

She is also the founder of the annual “Camp Lockeroo.” This international event brings dancers together to learn authentic locking from pioneers and respected members of the community, helping preserve the dance’s roots.

Beyond battles and competitions, she’s performed and choreographed for theaters, festivals, museums, and cultural institutions, helping bring locking to new audiences.

All in all, she’s widely respected for emphasizing the importance of understanding the history, music, and cultural origins of locking—not just the moves.

A HUGE thank you to Princess Lockerooo for reminding us that authenticity, creativity, and community will always have a place in dance.

Funny how almost everybody picked lyrical!

It’s probably because every time you dance it, it feels more personal.

You get to bring your own story and emotions into it and it feels more expressive.

Huge shoutout to the dancers at Caulfield School of Dance for sharing a little piece of why they love it. 💙

These are the kinds of stories we love helping studios tell because sometimes a 20-second conversation says more than a whole brochure ever could.

Wishing the entire Caulfield community the best of luck at recital—we know you’re all going to shine! ✨

Pride content is for everyone.

Inclusivity in dance has always existed and should continue to exist in every space because the very core value of the art is the freedom to express oneself.

Dance has always been rooted in self-expression. It’s about creating spaces where people can explore who they are, tell their stories, and feel like they belong.

At its best, Pride isn’t about excluding anyone. It’s about celebrating the idea that everyone deserves to feel welcomed, accepted, and free to be themselves.

That’s something every dance community can get behind 💚

Known as the “Godfather of Vogue,” Willi Ninja helped bring a unique style of movement and expression into the spotlight.

While he didn’t create the style, he elevated voguing from Harlem’s underground LGBTQ+ ballroom scene to the global stage. Ninja seamlessly blended high-fashion runway poses, gymnastics, martial arts, and mime-like choreography into this iconic dance style.

His creativity and influence continue to be seen across dance, fashion, and pop culture today further spreading the message that dance is continuously evolving as an art form and place of expression: dance continues to be an avenue for different characters and personalities to play around with their emotions and express them in different ways.

If you’re going to film testimonials, do it while everyone’s still feeling it!

Right after a show, the emotions are raw. The dancers are running on adrenaline, the parents are proud and excited, and the teachers are finally taking a breath after weeks of preparation and absorbing what just happened.

That’s when the best stories come out.

Wait a few days and people will still remember what happened. But they won’t remember it the same way or feel the same emotions they had in the moment.

The little details fade.

Capture those reactions while they’re fresh, because that’s when people start truly sharing their experiences.

Those are the stories future families connect with.

💚 Real moments build real trust.

Do you remember their first class?

Maybe they were excited. Maybe they were nervous and spent half the class hiding behind your leg.

Now look at them.

They walk into the studio on their own. They’re already running through choreography in their head. They know the teachers. They know their friends. They have that extra swag in their steps as they get ready for the day.

A little more confident.

A little more comfortable in who they are.

That’s the thing about dance. We see the performances, but it’s everything in between that matters too.

The confidence to try new things. The discipline to keep showing up. The friendships that make them feel like they belong. The resilience that comes from working through something challenging instead of walking away from it.

Those lessons don’t stay in the studio.

They show up at school, at home, and everywhere else life takes them.

That’s why so many families keep coming back. That’s what keeps us coming back.

💚 Keep them moving. Keep them growing.

For Today’s Spotlight, we have Christopher Wheeldon: A British choreographer based in New York.

His impact on dance extends far beyond choreography. Through his work, he helped modernize ballet, bring dance to new audiences, and show that creativity is expressed better when people are given the space to be themselves. He had also expanded the space for members of the LGBT+ community to see their stories play out on the stage.

Among his many achievements, in 2024, he choreographed a ballet based on the life of Oscar Wilde. It was one of the first major works in classical repertoire to openly show LGBT+ themes and relationships on stage—pioneering the movement to bring representation front and center.

Since then, he continues to expand the vocabulary of ballet as he finds surprising new ways to choreograph how these relationships are presented on stage. 🩰

Summer might mean classes are slowing down, but it shouldn’t mean slowing down on your marketing!

While studios are winding down from recital season, a lot of parents are already looking for summer activities. They’re exploring their options and figuring out where their kids will spend their time outside of family trips.

This is the time to keep showing people who you are. Keep sharing your community, your programs, your teachers, and the environment you’ve worked hard to build.

When registration season rolls around, you should already be on top of people’s lists!

If you need help staying consistent this summer, send us a quick DM or visit www.marketingmovez.com ☀️💚
