In case you were wondering, FAQ pages and structured FAQ data are now one of the most valuable assets for showing up in AI-generated answers in 2026.

Here's a bit of context. In August 2023, Google removed FAQ rich results from traditional search for most websites. But while that change reduced their visibility in traditional search, it didn't reduce their value — it redirected it.

The reason comes down to how AI tools actually work. Unlike traditional search engines, tools like Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity don't crawl and index content the same way. Instead, they look for content that is clearly structured around questions and answers, and a well-written FAQ section is exactly the kind of content these systems are built to find and use.

Which means if your content isn't structured to answer questions clearly, AI systems will simply find content that is. The good news is that adapting to this shift is more straightforward than most people expect, and understanding where that value has moved and how to act on it is exactly what we help organisations figure out.

If you've been feeling the pressure to keep up with AI changes while still maintaining your current results, this is a practical place to start.

Our founder Mhairi spent three days at the SEO Mastery Summit in Ho Chi Minh City in March, sitting in on sessions with SEO practitioners sharing real data and experiment results from the front lines of search.

She came back with four shifts that actually matter for marketing leaders navigating search in 2026:

✅ Ranking on Google and being cited by AI are now two separate things. Some pages are losing traffic without losing rankings at all. Users are getting answers directly from AI summaries and never clicking through.

✅ The fundamentals are more solid than the noise suggests. Schema does not improve rankings. Links still work. AI-assisted content performs just fine when it is accurate, reviewed, and clearly attributed.

✅ For AI citations, shorter and clearer is winning over longer and comprehensive. A focused page that answers one question well is now outperforming a 3,000-word article that tries to cover everything.

✅ Being visible in AI-generated answers isn't just about what's on your website. It follows a pattern: narrative consistency, authority density, repetition, and co-occurrence across the wider web.

Web Summit Vancouver brought global tech conversations to the city last week, with AI, content, and digital visibility high on the agenda.

Our founder Mhairi Petrovic was there, and a few things stood out:

AI is only as useful as the context behind it. Agents can be powerful, but if your data is messy, incomplete, or disconnected, AI will not magically fix that. For many businesses, the real issue is not an AI problem. It is a data problem.

The pace of change makes over-analysis risky. Spending six months evaluating a tool or platform may feel responsible, but in this environment, the landscape can shift before the decision is even made.

And a question worth sitting with: we are moving into a world where content is created not only for people, but for AI systems that summarize and influence decisions before a customer ever lands on your website. If humans may never see it directly, how should brands measure its value?

There is real opportunity here. There is also a lot of hype. The work now is knowing the difference.

To show up in AI-generated answers in 2026, your content needs to be structured around real user questions, provide clear answers upfront, and demonstrate credible, experience-based insight.

Content that is vague, generic, or poorly structured is far less likely to be cited by AI systems, regardless of how well it ranks in traditional search.

Here are 5 practical shifts to start applying to your content:

• Start with real questions, not keywords: build content around what your audience is actually asking across search, sales, and support.

• Answer clearly and early: lead with the answer, then explain, rather than burying key information deeper in the content.

• Organise so your content is easy to follow and reuse: use clear sections and logical flow so parts of your content make sense on their own.

• Prioritise expertise over generic content: include real examples, practical insight, and clear methods based on actual experience.
