If your videos aren’t performing the way you want, it’s probably not your content… it’s your hook. I can’t stress this enough👏🏼
It sounds like outdated advice but it’s still super important in 2026. You could have the cleanest visuals, and the most thought-out message, but if you don’t grab attention in the first few seconds, people simply scroll past. That’s just how social media works now. Attention is the currency, and hooks are what earn it.
A hook’s job isn’t to explain everything. Its only job is to stop the scroll. Once you’ve earned those first few seconds, then your content gets the chance to shine.
This is where a lot of brands and creators get stuck. They open with background, context, or long intros instead of leading with curiosity, emotion, or a clear pain point. On platforms like TikTok and Instagram, the algorithm favors watch time. If people don’t stay, your video doesn’t get pushed — no matter how good the rest of it is.
Strong hooks create momentum. They spark curiosity, set expectations, and make viewers want to stick around to hear the answer. Without one, your video never gets a fair shot.
The good news? Hooks are a skill — not luck. And once you start being intentional about how you open your videos, everything changes: higher watch time, more saves, more shares, and better overall reach.
If your content feels like it’s “not landing,” start with your first line. Fix the hook, and the rest of the video finally has room to work.
