Wrapped up this booklet design a couple weeks ago for the team at Jamie Banfield Design to hand out at the . Also hooked them up with some big-ass decals, for good measure. I think the best part about making this was giving myself a gold tooth. Experimentation with colours & different backgrounds, taking me back to college days :P

When I'm designing a logo for someone I REALLY dig into it. Today I want to share the justification I wrote for Aleisha's logo.

Photography is when a person opens themselves up in a vulnerable but safe way, so someone can fleetingly peek into a moment in their lives. Aleisha especially has a talent to capture these raw, vulnerable moments.

Her key words: romance, light, quiet joy, wood, nature, horizons, water, foliage, connection, cool, calm, vulnerability, embrace, captured moments.

Aleisha Boyd was ready for a new logo. After some brand discovery work, I landed on the window as good symbolism for Aleisha. The goal was to create something very earthy, open, and original. Something that displays Aleisha's professionalism, her attention to detail, and her calm, beautiful approach to life.

Symbolism of windows: vulnerability · light · natural illumination · observation. Spiritual entrance through which the soul can travel. Window frames represent an architectural quality. Photography also has this element. Eyes are windows to the soul – our expressions give others a momentary glimpse (window) into our heart and soul. To see light streaming in through a window can represent a special symbol of a person’s connection with a more spiritual aspect of life. Being open to new ideas, thoughts. Letting the light in to our souls. Light represents love and knowledge. This captures the romantic aspect of Aleisha’s photography style.

More notes: if not executed properly, windows can represent a narrow point of view/unclear perspective – therefor, this window must be represented as bright, clear, ample, cheery, wide, fresh, possibly with plant life on the inside &/or outside. The window cannot be too ‘wide/big/open’ proportionally because it could cause audience to feel vulnerable All in all, I believe this creative direction led me to create something strong and different, while still being in line with Aleisha's photography business.
