I was looking at a Semrush report today and noticed something many business owners are going to start seeing more often:
Those little SERP feature icons are becoming more important than the ranking number itself.
Why?
Because Google Search is changing again.
With Googleโs latest AI Search updates, people are no longer just typing short keywords and clicking through a list of blue links. They are asking longer, more specific questions. They are comparing options. They are using AI Mode. And in many cases, Google is giving them a summarized answer before they ever reach a website.
For SMBs, this means SEO canโt only be about โranking #1โ anymore.
The real question is:
๐ Is your business showing up when Google, ChatGPT, Gemini, or other AI tools summarize the answer?
That depends on things many companies still overlook:
โ
Clear service pages
โ
Strong FAQs
โ
Helpful blog content
โ
Real expertise
โ
Reviews and reputation
โ
Schema and technical SEO
โ
Content that answers buyer questions, not just keyword phrases
The companies that will win are not necessarily the ones publishing the most content.
They are the ones making it easiest for search engines and AI tools to understand who they are, what they do, who they serve, and why they are trusted.
SEO is not dead.
But โold SEOโ is definitely not enough anymore.
