Have you heard the news regarding social media SEO? It's all we've been reading in the industry the past few days, so we had to make a post about it! Read below our top tips on maximizing this new change for your SEO strategy (does anyone even want ANOTHER SEO thing to worry about?).

This might not be big news for everyone, as it's been addressed as an Instagram change, rather than an across-the-board change for all of Meta's platforms. There are some interesting points we found and will cover how to use it to your advantage.

1. Be Descriptive.
Take a look at your profile and do a quick audit on it. Does it seem to be lacking some defining words? Here's an example to understand what we're talking about better. Instead of just "Maria's Flowers", take the opportunity to go a step further. Think like "Maria's Flower Nursery in Vernon." That gives the search engines vital information to pass along to people searching these words.

2. Relevant Keywords
Hashtags have a good use again! There have been talks that hashtags are dead; they don't provide value anymore. WRONG! Now, you can you hashtags to help give more information about your business. Along with hashtags, just using the keywords you want to come up for in the caption can be a great place to take action.

3. Add Alt Text
Writing alt text on your images before you post them is beneficial for different reasons. While you should already be doing this for accessibility reasons, now it's another hotspot to put in some keywords. Google and AI can read alt text, so you know that's important to have something for them to read!

4. Location, Location, Location
Ok, this one isn't technically a new feature, but it's even more important now. You can set your location when you post things, which is a huge must-do for brick-and-mortar shops. It just gives more details on where your business is located and tells the search engines what area you're trying to target.

Even though it’s a rainy one, it’s time to celebrate the longest day of the year!!

Once it gets back to the beautiful Okanagan summer weather we know and love, we suggest picking up some bbq sauce and get grillin’. 🍖
