I have some news: I'm closing the active chapter of Owl House Design and stepping into a new role this Monday.

Running this business taught me more than I can put into words — and it also showed me where the creative industry is heading. When the conversation shifts from 'how do we build something meaningful' to 'how do we do it cheapest and fastest,' it's a signal. I'd rather put my energy where it's valued.

To the clients who got it — who understood that real branding is a business asset, not just a pretty logo — thank you. You were the whole point.

I'm genuinely excited for this next step, and grateful for every project, collaboration, and connection that brought me here. Maybe one day, The Owl House Design Studio can breathe again, but for now I'll be stepping back. 🖤

Most DIY logos aren’t the problem.

They usually look fine.

Clean fonts.
Nice colors.
Something you’re proud to put out there.

But they skip the part that actually matters.

The strategy underneath it.

What your brand is supposed to say.
Who it’s supposed to connect with.
How it’s meant to be recognized over time.

Without that…

your logo is just decoration.

And decoration doesn’t build trust.
It doesn’t position you.
It doesn’t grow your business.

It just sits there.

There’s nothing wrong with starting simple.

But if things feel disconnected, inconsistent, or like they’re not landing…

it’s usually not the design.

It’s what’s missing behind it.

Creativity gets all the attention.

New ideas.
New visuals.
Something different every time.

And yes, creativity matters.

But it’s not what builds a brand.

Because when everything changes…

nothing sticks.

If your content looks different every time,
your audience has nothing to recognize.

No pattern.
No familiarity.
No reason to remember you.

Consistency is what creates that connection.

It’s what makes people:
Recognize you
Trust you
Come back to you

Not because you were the most creative…

but because you were the most consistent.

If your brand feels all over the place,
it’s usually not a creativity problem.

You don’t need to go viral.

It feels like you do.

Like if more people saw your content,
everything would finally start working.

But here’s the part no one talks about.

If the right people don’t understand you…

more views won’t fix that.

You can go viral and still not get clients.
You can get attention and still not get traction.

Because attention isn’t the goal.

Connection is.

When your message actually lands:
People recognize themselves in it
They understand what you do
They know if it’s for them

And that’s what turns content into conversations.

Not reach.
Not views.
Not going viral.

Being understood.

If your content is getting seen but not converting,
it’s usually not a visibility problem.

Respectfully… Canva didn’t do this to you.
You did this to Canva.

Just because you can add it… doesn’t mean you should.

More fonts.
More colors.
More elements.
More effects.

At some point, it stops being design…
and starts being noise.

When everything is trying to stand out,
nothing actually does.

Good design isn’t about adding more.

It’s about knowing what to leave out.

Clear hierarchy.
Intentional choices.
Space to breathe.

That’s what makes something feel polished.
That’s what makes people understand it.

And yes… this is fixable.

If your designs feel a little chaotic or all over the place,
you’re not alone… and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.

Let me guess.

You've been putting off reaching out because you're not totally sure what happens next.

Do you have to have everything figured out already?
Do you need a brief? A budget? A vision board?
Will there be homework?

Spoiler: No, no, not necessarily, and also no.

Here's what working with The Owl House Design Studio actually looks like:

You show up. I ask questions.
Not scary ones. Just the kind that help me understand your business, your audience, and what's not quite working the way you want it to.

You don't need to come in with answers.
That's literally what I'm here for.

We figure it out together — what your brand is saying right now, what you want it to say, and what needs to change to close that gap.

Then I get to work.

No guesswork. No generic templates pulled from a drawer.

Just intentional design and clear strategy built specifically around your business.

Most of my clients tell me the conversation alone gave them more clarity than they'd had in months.

That part's free, by the way.

No pressure. No pitch. Just a conversation.

Small business owners… let’s talk about design for a minute.

One of the biggest challenges I see when reviewing business pages is that the branding often sends mixed signals.

The business itself might be fantastic, but the visuals unintentionally create confusion.

Things like:

• using too many fonts
• inconsistent colors across posts
• low-quality or stretched logos
• cluttered graphics that hide the message

None of these happen because someone is doing something “wrong.” They usually happen because most business owners are wearing ten different hats at once, and design naturally ends up lower on the priority list.

But here's the thing — people make snap judgments online in seconds. And inconsistent visuals can make an otherwise great business look like it's not quite ready for prime time.

So I created a quick visual resource that walks through seven of the most common design mistakes I see and how to fix them.

It only takes a few minutes to go through, but it can make a big difference in how your business shows up online.

Comment “DESIGN” and I’ll send the guide straight to your DMs.

You don’t need more posts.

It feels like you do.

Like if you just showed up more, posted more, tried harder…
something would finally start working.

But here’s what actually happens.

You post more content
without a clear direction
without consistency
without anything tying it all together

And it still doesn’t land.

Not because you’re not trying hard enough.

But because your brand isn’t doing its job.

When your brand is inconsistent:
Your content feels disconnected
Your audience doesn’t recognize you
Nothing sticks

So every post feels like starting over.

More content doesn’t fix that.

Consistency does.

When your brand is clear and cohesive:
People recognize you faster
Your content feels stronger
Everything starts to connect

And suddenly…
you don’t need more posts.

You just need better ones.

🧐If your content feels like it’s not gaining traction,
it’s usually not a volume problem.

17 fonts should be illegal.

Gladys down the street can’t keep 17 cats in her house…
so why are you trying to keep 17 fonts in one post?

I get it. You want your content to stand out.
You want personality. You want something eye-catching.

But here’s what actually happens:

Your message gets lost.
Your design feels chaotic.
Your audience doesn’t know where to look… so they don’t look for long.

And when people feel confused?
They scroll.

Strong branding doesn’t come from doing more.
It comes from doing things consistently.

Most of the time, you only need:
• one font for headlines
• one for body text
• maybe one accent if you’re feeling bold

That’s it.

Anything beyond that isn’t adding personality…
it’s adding noise.

And no offense to Gladys, but even she knows there’s a limit.

Case File Notes:
Victims reported confusion and visual overload.
Message could not be identified.

If your content feels a little all over the place lately, there’s usually a reason for that.
We can fix it.

Case closed… for now.
Next one’s already on my desk 👀

Most businesses don’t have a design problem.

They have a clarity problem.

Because you can have:
A decent logo
Nice colors
Good ideas

…and still feel like your brand just isn’t working.

That’s usually because nothing is connected.

Your visuals don’t match your message.
Your posts don’t feel consistent.
Your audience doesn’t immediately understand what you do.

And when people have to figure you out…
they usually don’t.

That’s where strategy comes in.

When I work with clients, we don’t just “make things look better.”

We:
Clarify your message
Align your visuals
Build a brand that actually makes sense to your audience

So when someone lands on your page, they don’t hesitate.

They get it.

And that changes everything.

📌If your brand feels a little all over the place right now, you’re not alone.
And you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.
