Throughout the day, Will will showcase the capabilities of Elinchrom lighting systems and share practical techniques for creating professional-quality studio images. Whether you're new to studio lighting or looking to expand your skills, this is a great opportunity to see Elinchrom gear in action, ask questions, and gain hands-on insights. An award-winning portrait, fine art and commercial photographer for 30 plus years, Will Prentice is a contributor to PHOTONews magazine, host of PHOTONewsTV, owner of Captura Photography+Imaging and Technical Support/Brand Manager for Amplis Foto, Canada’s largest distributor of photographic equipment. His work has also been presented in RMG Exposed and published in Durham: A 4 Seasons County and Rail Ties: A Story of Love.

A valued instructor who shares with photographers across Canada, Will teaches photographers of all skill levels how to improve their craft – from creative photo projects to picking the right gear for their needs to flattering lighting and getting the best expressions to creating final images for screen and print. Will believes that knowledge should be shared, not hoarded. His unique style of highly detailed images with perfect tonality, wide dynamic range and stunning colour is instantly recognizable. Commercial clients rely on Will’s creative eye and mastery of lighting.

When he’s not behind the camera or in front of a class, you’ll find Will outdoors in any weather – usually on one of his bikes or enjoying time with his grandchildren.

Freeze the Chaos: Action Photography Workshop

Flying high with Calgary skateboarder Devon Binnion at Millennium Park

Devon is a dedicated park skater who has competed in Canada Skateboard events across Alberta, bringing style, speed and creativity to every session. Whether he's carving transitions or launching above the coping, his skating is all about commitment and flow.

These images were captured during a recent action photography workshop I hosted with where Devon made the job easy by throwing trick after trick and giving us plenty of opportunities to experiment with angles, timing and lens choices.

Action photography is all about anticipation ... watching the lines, learning the athlete's rhythm and being ready for that split second when everything comes together.

Thanks to Devon for bringing the energy and making these images possible.

Freeze the Chaos: Action Photography Workshop

I recently had an incredible time at The Camera Store hosting an action sports workshop. Huge thanks to everyone who came out, leaned into the chaos and pushed the boundaries of what a portrait can be.

We worked with an amazing crew of athletes:
MTB: Liam Baylis ()
Skate: Devon Binnion ()
BMX: Carson Donovan ()

This set features Carson Donovan — an absolute force on a BMX bike. Smooth, controlled and fearless, Carson brings style and precision to everything he rides. The kind of athlete who makes even the wildest ideas look effortless (which, trust me… they weren’t 😄). I was laying down, leaning into the Big bowl, holding an elinchrom strobe at arm's length, to capture some hand plants. No risk, no reward 😁😁

Just got back from Canadian Imaging, presented by Professional Photographers of Canada in Saskatoon and honestly, I’m still riding that post-conference high. 🇨🇦

My first time in Saskatchewan, and it didn’t disappoint. The conference was held at the beautiful right along the South Saskatchewan River ... one of those spots where you catch yourself staring out the window a little longer than necessary. The staff there? Next level. The kind of people who make you feel like you’ve been coming back for years. It was cold and windy when I landed (Saskatchewan keeping me humble), but I somehow dodged the snowstorm… I’ll take that as a win. ❄️

Friday morning kicked off with my light shapers workshop using my Satos setup, plus a mix of other gear... and a few scrappy DIY tricks for good measure. Shooting tethered into with my Optima cable allowed everyone to see on screen what I was capturing. Three hours somehow disappeared in what felt like 20 minutes. Those are the sessions you live for. Huge thanks to for being an incredible model and bringing energy that kept the whole room locked in.💡

Later, I had the chance to jump in and assist Alison from during her portrait workshop. Watching her work through posing and connection was one of those quiet “take notes, don’t forget this” moments. Let’s just say… the smoke machine is officially coming out. 💨 And you can see i was paying attention to her posing methods 😁😁

Saturday was all about the trade show, talking gear, swapping stories and connecting with people who get just as excited about light and lenses and photo gear as I do. There’s something about being in a room full of creatives that just refuels you in a different way.

We wrapped it all up with a relaxed dinner at the hotel, which felt like the perfect exhale after a full couple of days.

Grateful for the conversations, the laughs, the new ideas and the reminder of why I love this industry so much. Already looking forward to the next one. 📸✨ See you in Calgary!
