You might need a bit more time to get around starting Monday

The first phase of construction to improve the surface of Two Mile Hill will start on Monday, July 25. The City’s contractor, Skookum Asphalt, will be milling Two Mile Hill Road from Range Road to Industrial Road.

Traffic will be reduced to single lane and commuters should anticipate delays during construction.

This phase is expected to last four days and will take place between 7 am and 7 pm. All work is dependent on weather and the schedule is subject to change.

Once the milling is complete, it will take approximately a week before the second phase of construction begins, which will see the curb and asphalt placed.

Please travel with care, reduce speed, and follow traffic controllers and construction signage. We thank you for your patience and consideration during this construction period.

Construction to improve the surface of Fourth Avenue will start on Wednesday, July 20.

The City’s contractor, Skookum Asphalt, will be milling and overlaying Fourth Avenue from Black Street to Ogilvie Street. Work is expected to last 12 days and will take place between 7 am and 7 pm. All work is dependent on weather and the schedule is subject to change.

Two-way, single lane traffic, and access to businesses and residences will be maintained; however, street parking in the construction area will be prohibited.

Be alert!

An immediate emergency evacuation is currently taking place at Ethel Lake campground and the surrounding area due to a wildfire. The 6-hectare Ethel Lake fire (MA-032) is east of the campground and is a risk to people and structures nearby. Wildland Fire crews are currently on-site and working with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Yukon, Department of Energy, Mines and Resources staff and volunteer firefighters to notify people and coordinate the evacuation.

Campers will be leaving via the Klondike Highway, which remains open despite a second wildfire (MA-021) burning 15 kilometres south of Stewart Crossing. Please avoid the Ethel Lake area.

Any persons that are placed on immediate tactical evacuation order should register with Emergency Support Services (ESS) at the earliest opportunity by calling 867-332-7367.

Registration with ESS allow responders to track evacuees and evacuees may be eligible for supports such as temporary lodging, food, and incidental expenses. Evacuees that seek lodging with family/friends are eligible for financial supports through ESS.
