One of our favourite holiday projects, Winter Works was created by the DWBIA Board (2019–2023) as a way to bring creativity, colour, and playfulness to the downtown during the winter months. Seeing Maiden Lane West transformed by the incredible work of local artists Billie McLaughlin and Enjoy Denial was truly special.

From McLaughlin’s bold, joyful Growth to DENIAL’s playful, hometown-inspired Cube A, and their collaborative piece Big Idea, Winter Works reminded us how powerful public art can be in creating connection and pride of place – especially during the holidays.

Live, in-person theatre returned to the heart of our city with C-O-N-T-A-C-T, an immersive outdoor experience that captivated Windsor audiences through its powerful fusion of mobile technology and live performance. Conceived during COVID-19 to explore themes of isolation, connection, and resilience, the production transformed downtown streets and alleys into intimate storytelling spaces, where audiences followed actors in real time while listening to their inner thoughts through a mobile app. At the time, Windsor proudly joined London, Paris, Brussels, Rome, Ottawa, and Toronto in presenting this smash-hit, COVID-friendly show.

We were honoured to deliver this innovative production on behalf of Contact Show Canada and the Downtown Windsor BIA, bringing world-class theatre to our core and offering a meaningful opportunity for our community to reconnect through the arts during an extraordinarily challenging moment.

The Ouellette Car Cruise has become one of downtown Windsor’s most beloved traditions — a celebration of classic cars, local culture, and the vibrant community that brings our streets to life. Every year, thousands lined Ouellette Avenue to experience the rumble of engines, the shine of vintage chrome, and the joy of gathering together in the heart of our city.

It was more than a cruise — it was a shared moment of pride, nostalgia, and connection.

Originally conceived by Larry Horwitz, the Cruise quickly evolved into a full community festival, complete with live entertainment, appearances by the iconic Poodle Skirt Ladies, kids programming, food and beverage vendors, and so much more. Jim Crichton emceed the event and — in one of our favourite memories — Jay Leno even autographed a couple of our shirts.

Supported by countless staff, students, and volunteers, we were proud to have organized the Cruise on behalf of the Downtown Windsor BIA — a tradition built on passion, people, and the love of great cars.

The Downtown Night Markets transformed the city core into a hub of music, food, art, and community connection. These markets not only showcased incredible local vendors and emerging creators — they drove foot traffic, supported small businesses, and energized our downtown streets with a uniquely Windsor vibe.

We’re proud to have helped create spaces where entrepreneurs shone, neighbours gathered, and our downtown felt unmistakably alive.

Balloonapalooza was one of downtown Windsor’s most whimsical and beloved festivals — a colourful celebration filled with larger-than-life inflatables, live entertainment, and pure delight for families. We were thrilled to have organized this magical event on behalf of the Downtown Windsor BIA, and to partner with Dynamic Displays in bringing joy to both the young and the young-at-heart. Watching the streets come alive with laughter, colour, and community spirit was truly unforgettable. .sorokopas

Afternoons in the Alley was one of downtown Windsor’s most charming and unexpected traditions — a pop-up social space tucked into the heart of the city that transformed an ordinary alleyway into a vibrant corridor of music, art, and togetherness. It became a place where the community gathered to relax, connect, and celebrate the creative spirit of the downtown core.

Proud to have organized this event on behalf of the Downtown Windsor BIA. Debi Croucher
