Something I learned the hard way in running my own businesses — being efficient does not always equal being effective. 🤷‍♀️

Having worked as a corporate employee for years, I was constantly encouraged to “find something to do” and “look busy” even when all my tasks were completed and I could have been putting my energy into better areas. But my butt had to be in that office chair 8 hours a day, and that meant learning how to do menial tasks very well. Not exactly a training ground for effective production. But each task was efficiently and beautifully done. 😅

It was only when I started working on my own projects that I had to unlearn the corporate structure. I quickly realized that being efficient means nothing when the task isn’t that important. And that forcing myself to do lower-level tasks was usually just a waste of time. 🙄

Today, I strive to focus on the things most important, for peak effectiveness. And to do that, I refer to this Gary Keller quote all the time. ✍️

Some ways I’ve learned to be more effective:
✨Outsource whatever I can
✨Organize tasks in order of importance & do the hard ones first
✨Spend less time in meetings
✨Audit my work and the rate of return

Literally me every time I get a hate comment on the internet. 🤷‍♀️I’m workin’ on it.

But in all seriousness, getting a hate comment from a stranger means that strangers are reading your work. Which is huge for any creator. You’re making an impact. Not everyone is going to love you 💪

And, granted that you’re not actually a terrible person slandering others on the internet or IRL, people who spend time hating on others can totally suck it. 🤭

If you’re anything like me, then you’ve already mapped out your business goals for 2022 💪

Though I’m not a fan of New Years resolutions, I am a fan of goals, and I’m feeling so inspired about everything I want to accomplish in the year ahead. So without further ado, here are some ideas for how to level up your biz:

1. Education - I firmly believe that investing in education can be the single most important ongoing thing to creating a business you love.
Some education ideas are photography, language, accounting, marketing, etc.

2. Outsourcing - eventually, every business owner realizes that if they want to scale, they can’t do it all. Learn how to outsource and do it early in your endeavour.

3. Networking - Nobody is an island, and meeting people will skyrocket your biz in ways you’ve never dreamed. Attend that networking sesh ASAP!

4. Time management - Take note of how you spend your time and what you’re wasting precious hours on. There are plenty of time management theories, so invest in learning about the one that works best for you.

5. Cyber security - I can’t tell you how many people I know who have been hacked lately. Invest in a VPN and password service (such as Lastpass) and make using them a habit.

6. 80/20 rule - this is much in line with my time management point, but it’s said that 20% of the work you do will garner 80% of the results. Cut the unnecessary crap and focus on what makes you money / what you love and just can’t give up.
