✨She got rejected from her dream studio… now she’s opening her second studio in that exact location šŸŽ‰

NEW POD EPISODE šŸŽ™ļø

I sat down with .scattergood — co-founder of in Arizona — and she walked me through one of my favorite stories I’ve heard on the podcast.

Holland auditioned at her dream studio. Got an immediate no. She emailed the manager back, asked what it would take, went and got six months of experience at a smaller studio, and came back.

The same manager who said no the first time? He’s now one of her business partners šŸ’…šŸ«¶

We get into:
→ Why ā€œnoā€ is rarely a complete sentence
→ Hiring instructors who are themselves vs. the ā€œperfectā€ copy-paste
→ Living with autoimmune disease while running a business
→ Why we LOVE and live for theme rides ✨
→ Opening NYX’s second location in the exact building where her journey started

This one is for every fitpro who has ever been told no, doubted their voice on the podium, or wondered if they’re allowed to play the music they actually love.

Thank you for your absolute light + gift of this conversation, Holland! Xo

Confession: I only drink non- water when I’m working out 🫣

Catch me guzzling grapefruit or blackberry (exclusively) at all hours of the day and feeling hydrated šŸ’…

But my ADHD hyper-focus question of the day I need to know: do you consider it water IN YOUR MIND or more of a fridge cigarette/sweet treat?

PS: Bubly please hold a contest for the person who drinks the most because I will 100% win… just check my recyclingšŸ„‡

TOP FILMING TIPS FOR CHOREO REELS šŸ‘‡

1ļøāƒ£Start with a BIG movement and a beat drop to grab attention fast—people scroll within 3 seconds. No more long buildups to the beat drop, hook ā€˜em right away šŸš€

In this reel, we start right at the beat drop and I’m jumping up out of the saddle while my filmer moves in.

As you lead, go for bold, exaggerated actions—think hair flips, singing, and HIGH energy šŸ”„

2ļøāƒ£GET SOMEONE TO FILM YOU. It’s more fun, and less awkward than you think (shoutout to our SM Queen!)

Get them to move in, out, and around, syncing your motion with the beat for dynamic shots from all angles. šŸ“ø (and yes, reels/videos tend to do better when you have someone filming vs setting up a tripod!)

This works best for high-energy choreo or on-the-bike Reels aimed at wowing your audience/showcasing your athleticism, creativity, choreography, etc.

3ļøāƒ£Finish strong: I love throwing a towel at the camera and when I’m directing viewers to the caption, will have a CTA in there!

4ļøāƒ£ lighting: make sure you have a spotlight of SOME kind so people can actually see what you’re doing.

For tutorials on form or other content, adapt as needed, but remember: movement catches eyes! šŸ‘€šŸ’«

Hands up if you’ve been personally victimized by a remix that sounded amazing until the beat drop + chorus 😭😭😭

As a former club DJ, I’ve been scouring for remixes for decades — and their algorithm has only gotten better and better 🤌

Quick tip for finding remixes + mashups:

find one you love, head to the three dots on that track and hit ✨start station✨ and the platform will generate 50+ tracks just like it!

Instructors: let’s not gatekeep our favourite remixes…. Drop them below!

šŸ‘€ Most instructors are coaching one type of rider—
Usually themselves. šŸ‘‡

It’s not intentional — it’s just what happens when nobody teaches you that your room is full of people who absorb information completely differently.

Visual thinkers.
Body learners.
Metric-driven athletes.
Neurodivergent riders.
First-timers.
People with disabilities.

Inclusive coaching isn’t just a philosophy.
It’s a skill set — and it’s exactly what separates rooms that feel electric from ones that feel disconnected.

This carousel breaks down three of the core learner types I coach to, and how to speak each of their languages in a single track.

Because when every person in that room feels seen, understood, and coached to?

That’s where the magic lives. ✨

The full podcast episode goes even deeper — and this framework is one of the foundational principles inside Instructor Magic, where we have an entire masterclass vault dedicated to coaching, led by some of the most incredible leaders in the industry.

The 🌷SPRING SALE is happening now, and you get immediate access to an online, 6 week course that has helped hundreds of coaches LEVEL UP, FILL CLASSES, and CHANGE LIVES.

ā€œhOw Do yOu rIDe wItH yOuR hAIr DOWNā€ 🫔

Listen YOU MAY LOOK LIKE A šŸ¦ AT THE END BUT šŸ‘‡

the feeling of a hair down hair whip is šŸ¤ŒšŸ¤˜šŸ”„

(And I’ll stop when my strands choke me to ā˜ ļø)

***KIDDING… though if you’ve ever had a strand wrap around your neck things can feel dire for a sec.

I LOVE wearing my hair down when I ride (until it really needs to go up.. lol)

- even when I had hair extensions for that extra sass + personality - and in the spirit of PRACTICE IT UNTIL YOU BECOME IT my confidence skyrocketed when I started whipping it around.

Hear me out šŸ‘‡

Confidence building is something we master in Instructor Magic - and something as simple as wearing a ā€œpower fitā€ or doing this ^ can change the entire vibe of the ride.

So as ridiculous as this was to film… (I couldn’t stop laughing)… try wearing your hair down, wearing the bright colour leggings, or maybe dipping your toe in with a new style. Think of your instructor persona/brand as being one that’s you- but amplified.

…maybe dip your toe in by doing half up half down to start šŸ¤—šŸŽ‰

the magic ✨that you create in the studio requires you to feed yourself, friend

What you consume out of the studio will show up on the podium:

✨Books + art + podcasts
✨Time with friends who light you up
✨Thoughts + narratives you have about yourself, your body, your life
✨Practices of meditation + mindfulness + mindset work

And more.

If you’re in a constant state of giving and never receiving that same love ^ support ^ empathy ^ forgiveness ^ celebration… you’ll hit a wall of burnout that no amount of waitlisted classes will fix.

It’s why I’ve created multiple online programs and communities for instructors and coaches- serving thousands since 2021 through the Instructor Magic Academy 🄹

If you’ve hit your wall and need inspiration- I have a FREE Masterclass happening on April 15 with instructors from around the world šŸŒŽšŸ˜

Let community feed you heading into next week - and tag a fit pro who might need this below šŸ‘‡

I’m over the debate of rhythm cycling vs. metric cycling, the debate of why we ā€œdance on bikesā€ and whether choreo ā€œactually does anythingā€ šŸ™„

There are SO many benefits to physical exercise - but the correlation between dance and memory/brain health is fascinating.

(And as an educator and research nerd, I LOVE finding receipts! šŸ¤“)

Choreography, music, movement, community, belonging: these pillars of rhythm cycling aren’t just nice things- they literally improve your chances of living a longer, healthier life.

If you want to level up your skills and help make the biggest impact on the lives of your clients, Round 13 of Instructor Magic is opening on April 18, and I have a free live virtual masterclass happening on Thursday April 17!

Spoiler: it happens once a year 🫣 šŸ’€

REAL TALK: I am usually the one to need a last-minute sub- with migraines, pet emergencies, other work issues… life happens.

Even 8 years in, I struggle with feeling guilty about needing a last-minute sub.

But when I stepped in to sub last-minute for a colleague recently, I was reminded about how wonderful it feels to help - AND how fun and unexpected the class vibes can be.

I got the best messages from the riders after class- and some of them even shared how they haven’t been able to make it to my rides based on their schedule, and forgot how much they needed them 🄹

My go-go rules for stepping in to sub last-minute:

šŸ™…ā€ā™€ļødon’t check the roster to see who cancels out after you’re announced. You might not even be the reason they suddenly can’t make it- but watching the list is crazy-making.

šŸ™…ā€ā™€ļøif the theme isn’t your thing or too artist-specific, ask to make it a regular ride. Ideally you’re able to sub for someone with similar taste- but it’ll be stressful to try and learn new music - especially if clients who signed up are super fans.

🫶 don’t try and be that instructor- be yourself. Riders love you for you, and your format, motivation, etc.

🫶 consider asking a rider to hop up on the podium with you- especially if they’re celebrating a milestone. It helps to take he focus off of you and any anxiety you have about not being the instructor they wanted to ride with

🫶thank your riders for being open to riding with you and for their beautiful energy. Use the theme of openness and unexpected things sometimes being the most magical.

Shout out to my amazing team who has been so supportive this year as I’ve needed more subs than usual and to our community for always giving me the warmest welcome when I pop into someone else’s slot!!
