SAMBA POLICE ARRESTS DRUG PEDDLER WITH 12.94 GRAMS HE**IN LIKE SUBSTANCE

Samba: May 29, 2026: Intensifying its drive against drug smugglers/peddlers in the ongoing Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, Samba Police has arrested a drug peddler in the jurisdiction of Police Station Ghagwal and recovered approximately 12.94 grams he**in-like substance (Chitta) from his possession.

A Police team of Police Station Ghagwal during checking duty at NHW Naka Tapyal, intercepted a pedestrian who was coming from Kathua side and moving towards Samba side under suspicious circumstances. During frisking, approximately 12.94 grams of he**in-like substance (Chitta) was recovered from his possession.

The drug peddler identified as Abhishake Sharma S/o Krishan Lal R/o Jassore tehsil R S Pura district Jammu has been arrested and contraband item has also been seized.

A case FIR No.55/2026 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Ghagwal and investigation started.

REASI POLICE INTENSIFIES ANTI-DRUG DRIVE; 2.5 GRAMS CHITTA SEIZED IN KATRA

Reasi...Continuing its sustained drive against drug menace under the ongoing *Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan,* Reasi Police achieved another success by apprehending a drug peddler and recovering he**in (Chitta) from his possession at Katra.

On 27.05.2026, a police party of Police Station Katra while performing naka checking duty at Ambika Chowk, Katra, intercepted one suspicious person namely Ashok Kumar S/O Gagu R/O Matyal, Tehsil Katra, who was coming from Asia Chowk towards Fountain Chowk, Katra. During checking and personal search of the said person, approximately 2.5 grams of he**in (Chitta) was recovered from his possession.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 165/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Katra and further investigation has been taken up.

Reasi Police remains committed towards eradicating the drug menace from the society and appeals to the general public to cooperate with police by sharing any information related to drug peddling or substance abuse in their areas.

Eco Club “Amrita” Organizes Lecture on World Environment Day 2026
As a part of the pre-celebration activities of World Environment Day 2026, the Eco Club “Amrita” of Government Degree College Ramgarh organized an awareness lecture on environmental conservation under the able guidance of the Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol.
The programme was organized with the objective of sensitizing students and members of the local community about the importance of environmental protection and sustainable living. The theme for World Environment Day 2026, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”, was highlighted during the event.
Dr. Shivali Panjgotra, Head, Department of Environmental Sciences and Convener of Eco Club “Amrita”, delivered an informative lecture on the importance of the environment for human survival. She highlighted that basic necessities such as air, water, and food are obtained from the environment, which is increasingly being polluted by human activities. She also discussed environmental challenges and encouraged students and community members to adopt eco-friendly practices such as tree plantation, reducing pollution, conserving water, and minimizing waste to protect the environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol appreciated the efforts of the Eco Club in organizing such awareness programmes and highlighted the need for collective responsibility in protecting the environment for present and future generations. She encouraged students to actively participate in environmental conservation initiatives and become responsible citizens.
Prof. Brahm Dutt also addressed the gathering and highlighted how Indian culture and traditions promote environmental conservation. He emphasized that respect for nature is deeply rooted in our culture and stressed that reconnecting with our traditions is essential for protecting the environment.He remarked that if we truly wish to conserve the environment, we must reconnect with the principles of sustainability embedded in our traditions and culture.
The programme witnessed the presence of faculty members including Mr. Ashok Kumar and Prof. Sandeep Kumari. Members from the local community and students actively participated in the programme and were made aware about environmental issues and sustainable solutions.The formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Brahm Dutt, who expressed gratitude to the Principal, faculty members, students, and local community members for making the programme successful.

J&K POLICE KATHUA ATTACHES IMMOVABLE PROPERTY WORTH ₹ 40 LAKH (Market Value) OF PIT NDPS DETENUE AT BILLAWAR

J&K Police Kathua today attached immovable property comprising single-storey residential house with a total estimated value of approximately ₹ 40 Lakhs, belonging to a PIT NDPS Detenue namely *Darshan Singh S/o Baldev Singh R/o Galak Tehsil Ramkot District Kathua*, under the provisions of Prevention of illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT-NDPS Act).

The property was identified as illegally acquired during the course of investigation. The entire proceeding was conducted under the directions of *SSP Kathua Ms. Mohita Sharma IPS alongwith SP Ops. Upper Kathua, SDPO Billawar and SHO Billawar.*

During the investigation, it was found that the drug peddler possessed immovable property single storey Residential House valued at approximately ₹ 40 Lacs, situated at Galak Ramkot, Kathua, which was prima facie acquired through proceeds generated from illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

Today, in the presence of the Revenue Department, a team led by SDPO Billawar and SHO Billawar assisted by IC PP Ramkot formally attached the said property under the provisions of Sections 68 A.2 (c) & E read with 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985.

During the investigation, it surfaced that the property had been acquired as a result of proceeds from narcotics-related activities. Since the property was prima facie found to have been acquired through illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, it was attached in accordance with the law

The said individual has been involved in 02 NDPS cases registered within Kathua District, as detailed below:
1. FIR No. 04/2025 under Sections 8/21/22/NDPS Act
2. FIR No. 106/2025 under Sections 8/15/21/22/ NDPS Act.

Local residents have hailed the initiative of Kathua Police regarding the attachment of immovable property raised or used through illicit trafficking of narcotics by drug peddlers in Kathua district.

Kathua Police remains committed to its sustained crackdown against drug trafficking and reiterates its resolve to make the district drug-free by targeting both narcotics networks and illegally acquired assets of drug offenders. REASI POLICE RECOVERS 160 GRAMS OF CANNABIS AND CASH DURING NAKA CHECKING AT SEARLI

Reasi.... Under the ongoing *Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan,* District Police Reasi achieved another success against drug trafficking during naka checking operations.

On 26.05.2026, during naka checking at Searli Naka, a suspicious person carrying a red-green patterned sling bag on his left shoulder was noticed coming on foot from Chamba side towards Searli. On seeing the police party, the person turned back and attempted to flee from the spot. Acting swiftly and tactfully, the naka team apprehended the suspect.

During checking/search of the sling bag, police recovered a green coloured polythene containing suspected contraband Cannabis (G***a) packed in polypouches weighing approximately 160 grams. Cash amounting to ₹38,900 was also recovered from another section of the bag.

During questioning, the accused disclosed his identity as Shalinder Giri S/o Patal Giri R/o Balak Nath Mandir, Achalpur, Hoshiarpur, Punjab.

In this regard, FIR No. 164/2025 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Katra and further investigation is underway.

Central University of Jammu organized International Conference ‘Climate Samvaad 2026’ and Inks MoU for Bharat Climate Observation Network Site in Collaboration with IITM Pune

Jammu, : Under the dynamic leadership of Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain, and with the blessings and unwavering support of Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh Ji, the Central University of Jammu (CUJammu), in collaboration with Tribhuvan University, Nepal, organized the three-day international conference, “CLIMATE SAMVAAD 2026: A Stride Towards Climate Resilient Society,” from 25th – 27th May, 2026. The inaugural sessions featured a gathering of eminent environmental and academic dignitaries where Prof. Yashwant Singh, Registrar, CUJammu, warmly welcomed the national and international delegates, setting an optimistic tone for the collaborative future. Chief Guest Prof. Deepak Aryal, Former Vice Chancellor, Tribhuvan University, Nepal delivered a compelling address highlighting the shared climate vulnerabilities across the borders of India and Nepal. Guest of Honor Dr. Sudesh Yadav (Director, CSIR-IHBT, Palampur) and Sh. Vasu Yadav, IFS (Chairman, JKPCC) emphasized the urgent need to operationalize scientific data into practice.
The landmark event was further distinguished by a historic, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between Central University of Jammu and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune (under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India) to advance collaborative efforts in climate and atmospheric sciences. This strategic partnership will lead to establishment of a premier long-term Climate Observation Site under the Bharat Climate Observation Network (BCON) program at CUJammu’s Himalayan High Altitude Atmospheric and Climate Research (H2A2CR) Centre, located at an altitude of approximately 2250m amsl in Village Mandlote, District Udhampur, J&K. The agreement was signed by Dr. A. Suryachandra Rao, Director, IITM, Pune, and Prof. Sanjeev Jain, VC, CUJammu, in the presence of senior scientists Dr. Suvarna Fadnavis, Dr. Anoop Mahajan and Dr. Yogesh Tiwari from IITM.
BCON is a national observational initiative conceptualised and implemented by IITM under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), GoI, to develop a long-term, high-precision climate monitoring framework across the country. The network is designed to systematically collect continuous, high-quality measurements of essential climate variables across diverse geographical regions, from coastal and urban areas to remote and high-altitude locations. The integration of the H2A2CR Centre into BCON significantly enhances the network’s coverage in the Himalayan region, which is highly sensitive to climate variability and change.
While signing the MoU, Dr. A Suryachandra Rao expressed immense optimism regarding this MoU, emphasizing its role within the wider framework of national climate resilience. In his presidential address, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, shared his vision of positioning Jammu & Kashmir at the forefront of global climate change mitigation and academic exchange, thanking the administration and leadership for making this collaboration possible.
Dr. Shweta Yadav (Associate Dean, International Affairs & Convener) presented formal Vote of Thanks and expressed deep gratitude to the outstanding gathering for making Climate Samvaad 2026 a great success. She thanked MoES and ANRF for providing financial support to this conference. Dr Yadav as Incharge of H2A2CR Centre welcomed the BCON collaboration with IITM and thanked leaders of both institutes for planning to make H2A2CR Centre as first functional BCON site in India. An incredible galaxy of subject experts, leading scientists, and academicians gathered in this Samvaad to deliver specialized lectures, panel insights, and keynotes. The technical sessions were anchored by high-caliber domain specialists, with inaugural lectures by Prof. Deepak Aryal (Former Vice Chancellor, Tribhuvan University, Nepal), an authority on Himalayan meteorology, who set the scientific benchmark and Dr. Sudesh Yadav (Director, IHBT Palampur), providing deep insights into ecological adaptation and bio-resource management. The roster got further enriched by a distinguished list of speakers including Sh. Amitabh Sinha (Deputy Editor, Indian Express) and Dr Vishnu Pandey, Executive Director, Centre for International Relations, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Samba: May 27, 2026: Intensifying its drive against drug smugglers/peddlers in the ongoing Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, Samba Police has arrested a drug peddler in the jurisdiction of Police Station Bari Brahmana and recovered approximately 3.11 grams he**in-like substance (Chitta) from his possession.

A Police team of Police Station Bari Brahmana during patrolling in the area, intercepted a pedestrian who was coming from Lane No.4 Bari Brahmana and moving towards Hallmark Factory Bari Brahmana under suspicious circumstances. During checking, approximately 3.11 grams of he**in-like substance (Chitta) was recovered from his possession.

The drug peddler identified as Mohd Aslam S/o Hakam Din R/o Balole Khad Tehsil Bari Brahmana district Samba has been arrested and contraband item has also been seized.

A case FIR No.137/2026 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bari Brahmana and investigation started.

Samba: May 26, 2026: Continuing its intensified drive against drug smugglers and peddlers under the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan”, Samba Police has arrested a drug peddler in the jurisdiction of Police Station Vijaypur and recovered approximately 01 kilogram of G***a-like substance from his possession.

A Police party of Police Station Vijaypur during patrolling duty at Shiv Nagar Road, intercepted a pedestrian who was coming from Rakh Barotian side and moving towards Shiv Nagar under suspicious circumstances. During frisking, approximately 01 Kilogram of G***a-like substance was recovered from the possession of said person.

The drug peddler identified as Puranchandra Dora S/o Krushnachandra Dora R/o Nayagarh (Odisha) presently residing at Jakh tehsil Viajypur district Samba has been arrested and the contraband item has also been seized.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 87/2026 u/s 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Vijaypur and investigation started.

Government Degree College Ramgarh organized an awareness programme under the National To***co Control Programme (NTCP) to promote a healthy and to***co-free environment on the college campus.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol and coordinated by Prof. Brham Dutt and Mr. Ashok Kumar. The initiative aimed to raise awareness among students and the local community about the harmful effects of to***co consumption and the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Brham Dutt, who emphasized the significance of creating awareness about the harmful effects of to***co and encouraged students to become ambassadors of a healthy and to***co-free society.
As part of the campaign, students actively participated by displaying posters and placards carrying messages such as “Say No to To***co” and “To***co-Free Campus.” The activity emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean, safe, and to***co-free educational environment.
Addressing the students, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol highlighted the importance of staying away from to***co and adopting healthy habits. She stated that educational institutions play a vital role in shaping responsible citizens and creating awareness about health-related issues among the younger generation. She also appreciated the active participation of students and staff in making the programme successful.
The college administration, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students collectively extended their support to the to***co-free campaign and reaffirmed their commitment to strictly following NTCP guidelines on the campus.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Ashok Kumar, who expressed gratitude to the Principal, faculty members, staff, and students for their enthusiastic participation and support in making the awareness programme successful.
