Jammu SPO Among 5 Nabbed In International S*x Racket

Acting on specific intelligence regarding immoral activities, a team from the Gangyal Police Station executed a surprise raid on a rented property in the Bandhu Rakh area of Kunjwani, busting an alleged immoral trafficking racket. Five individuals, including two foreign nationals from Thailand, were arrested from the spot.

Sources revealed that the accommodation where the racket was operating had been allegedly taken on rent by a Special Police Officer (SPO) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, identified, who is currently posted at the District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu.

An SPO (Special Police Officer) is a temporary, auxiliary police personnel engaged by state police departments in India (like the Jammu & Kashmir Police and Tripura Police) to provide local assistance, augment law enforcement strength, and aid in counter-terrorism operations.

The Gangyal Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law. While the identities and travel documents of the detained foreign nationals are being closely verified for visa violations, a detailed investigation has been launched to uncover further institutional or local linkages to the racket.

*Awareness Programmes on 100-Day Campaign of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Held at Block Kalakote*

Rajouri, May 13: Under the directions of District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Sh. Abhishek Sharma (IAS), Dr. Poonam Sethi, Director Health Services Jammu, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kalakote, Dr. Mohammad Tanwir (KAS), and Chief Medical Officer Rajouri, Dr. Manohar Rana, two separate awareness programmes under the 100-day campaign of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan were successfully conducted today in Block Kalakote of District Rajouri.

One programme was organized at CHC Kalakote, while the second programme was held at Panchayat Kharak. A large number of local residents and community representatives from different panchayats actively participated in the programmes.

During the programmes, a detailed lecture on the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of a drug-free society was delivered by Dr. Iqbal Malik, Block Medical Officer Kalakote, who is also holding the charge of the District Mental Health Programme. He highlighted the physical, psychological, social, and economic consequences of substance abuse and stressed the collective responsibility of society in protecting the younger generation from the menace of drugs.
Dr. Mohammad Tanwir, ADC Kalakote, also addressed the gathering and emphasized the need for collective efforts to eradicate drug abuse from society.

The programmes concluded with a pledge by the participants to support the vision of a drug-free society under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

BGSBU Organises Girls’ Badminton and Basketball Matches

Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University organised Girls’ Badminton and Basketball matches showcasing the University’s continued commitment towards promoting sports culture, physical fitness, and women empowerment on the campus. On the occasion, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, inaugurated the newly established Basketball Court. The inauguration ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation from girl students, who also played the inaugural basketball match on the newly developed court. Addressing the students, the Vice Chancellor appreciated their sporting spirit and active participation in extracurricular and sports activities. He emphasized the importance of sports in developing confidence, leadership qualities, discipline, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle among young women. The Vice Chancellor also highlighted the significance of the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan and encouraged students to stay away from drugs and other harmful substances. He said that sports and constructive activities are powerful tools for channelising youth energy in a positive direction and building a healthy, responsible, and progressive society. He also attended the final match of the Girls’ Badminton competition and lauded the students for their energy, dedication, and competitive spirit. He remarked that such initiatives play a significant role in empowering women students by encouraging active participation, self-confidence, and overall personality development.

The sports activities were organised under the broader initiative of promoting a healthy and positive lifestyle among youth. The events created an atmosphere of enthusiasm, fitness, and teamwork among hostel residents and participants.
