Nylon – the miracle material born out of desperation!

Here’s a little appreciation post and backup story about one of the most underrated and misunderstood fabrics out there.

Nylon was first invented by DuPont, an American chemical conglomerate. Not to save fashion — but toothbrushes! 🪥

Until then, toothbrush bristles were made from pig bristles (yes, really). They absorbed water, moulded easily and were far from hygienic. When chemist Wallace Carothers invented nylon, DuPont looked for an everyday product to test it on.
Enter the Dr. West's Miracle-Tuft Toothbrush – the first toothbrush with nylon bristles.

It was a hit: cleaner, more durable, no swelling or smell.
Only later did someone think: “Wait a minute… this silky, shiny stuff would be perfect for stockings!”

And so the nylon boom began. In 1939, nylon stockings hit the market – and women literally stormed the shops!
During World War II, nylon was in such high demand for parachutes that it was even traded on the black market.

Fast forward to today – nylon doesn’t always get the love it deserves in fashion. It’s seen as “unnatural” and “unsustainable,” but when used right, it’s genius:

✨ Where nylon works best:
• Anything that needs shape, stretch, or weather protection
• Pieces where you want a sleek, modern, slightly sporty finish

🧥 Outerwear – where nylon truly shines:
• Trench coats
• Bomber jackets
• Puffers & raincoats
• Travel shells
Wind-resistant, water-repellent, ultralight — perfect for layering.

👗 Dresses & Skirts
• Adds crispness and shape retention to structured or shiny cocktail dresses.
• Keeps pleats sharp and resists wrinkles, as in the pic below
• As a lining, it makes fabric glide beautifully.

👚 Blouses & Tops
• Sheer or satin-like nylon blends create minimalist, modern or futuristic looks.
• Nylon organza or taffeta adds volume and sheen.
• Nylon-cotton mixes make everyday wear more durable and comfortable.

So next time you see “nylon” on a label — don’t roll your eyes.
Think innovation, function, and a touch of 1930s glamour! ✨

What's the best thing about sweater weather? Finally being able to wear knits again!

And the options are endless: Cropped cardigans that play nicely with wide-leg trousers. Oversized, cozy knits that double as a blanket on gloomy mornings - or Netflix evenings... Longline cardigans that add instant elegance (and cover what you don't want to show). Chunky cable sweaters for drama, or sleek fine knits if you like it minimal.

Your style personality makes the difference (see my suggestions in the slides)
🧶 Classic → clean cuts, neutral tones, structured, fine knits.
🧶 Dramatic → bold shoulders, striking patterns, high-contrast combos.
🧶 Romantic → embellishments, embroidery, a touch of sparkle.
🧶 Natural → breathable fabrics, earthy shades, easy layering.
🧶 Creative → playful colours, quirky textures, unexpected mixes, and knits that look like wearable art.

Knits themselves are magic: loops of yarn that can become sheer, heavy, ribbed, stretchy, soft, or structured. Whatever your style, there’s a knit for you.
So tell me: what’s your sweater weather go-to? Cropped, chunky, longline, or oversized?

50 shades of grey or what's a monochromatic look?

If you dress head-to-toe in one colour (or shades of the same tone) - you're wearing a monochromatic look. It may sound simple – but that’s exactly why it works. It works because it elongates the silhouette, instantly looks polished with zero effort, and lets textures and shapes take center stage instead of colours that clash. Same colour means it could be both cold or warm toned and that's the beauty of it. It simplifies things a great deal, even for the un-trained eye.

What a monochromatic look can do for you:
🔴 elongate the silhouette
🟢 create instant polish
🟡 shift the focus to texture and shape
🔵 It’s proof that less really can be more in style.

What’s your go-to monochromatic colour?

Sweater weather and Layering season are here

🍂 With autumn sneaking in and cooler temperatures on the way, it’s the perfect time to play with layers.
Unlike summer, where every little curve (or “extra skin” as my kids once teased) is on display, autumn is kind and forgiving. A cozy cardigan, a sharp blazer, or a soft scarf not only protect you from chilly winds, but they also give you endless styling options.
And the best part? When the sun decides to shine, you can simply peel off a layer and stay comfortable again. Fashion meets function – that’s why layering is so much fun!

Layering is great for
🧣 Adding instant style depth
👚 Mixing textures & patterns
🥻Making summer pieces autumn-ready
🧥 Showing personality through details
☀ Staying flexible for changing weather

I am lowkey layering in Jerusalem where it's still hot most days. How are you welcoming sweater weather this year?

We’ve all been there: staring at the wardrobe thinking “Why don’t I look like that cool Pinterest board* I saved last night?” The answer might not be your clothes. It might be… you. (Yes, sorry.)

Because here’s the truth: your personality and values have a sneaky way of messing with the style you think you want. You can buy the leather pants, but if your inner voice sounds like your great-aunt whispering “nice girls don’t dress like that” … those pants will never leave the hanger. This is exactly why values are a big topic in my style workshops.

So, let’s talk about the main style archetypes and how personality traits can either be the perfect match, or a very bad blind date.

Investment Dressing – Smart or Boring?

Investment dressing means buying high-quality, timeless pieces that last and form the backbone of your wardrobe.
But not everyone loves it. Creative dressers often crave variety, bold prints, and individuality - classics can feel dull.
The key is balance: anchor pieces that express your style.

How to invest in pieces that anchor your style, without dulling your individuality, if you are for example:
🧑🏼‍🎨 Creative pro: leather satchel – edgy yet elevated
🧳 Traveller: timeless trench – chic and versatile
👩‍💼 Executive: tailored blazer – polished authority
🕶️ Artistic soul: signature sunglasses – lasting personality
🧥 Social maven: statement earrings – durable impact

Which piece do you happily invest in? Mine is (are!) handbags...

Forget New York, London and Berlin
Why Paris Beats Them All in Fashion, Lifestyle and Culture

The Fashion
Of course, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent - some of the greatest fashion houses of all time - are French. But there’s so much more to Parisian style. It’s for every budget, every age, and it always makes you feel good. In Paris, people will notice and appreciate your effort; you’ll be admired as you stroll past their favourite bistrot.

The Lifestyle
Parisians (and the French in general) sit down for a proper meal. They don’t joke about their cuisine. Or their wine.
Only in Paris, I can sip a glass of rosé at lunchtime and still feel energized afterwards. Children eat alongside their parents - not with chicken nuggets and fries, but with real food. Dining out isn’t a fussy occasion; it’s simply part of daily life.
I was also struck by how the city has changed. Last year I noticed more bicycles than ever before. This year, it seemed like there were more cyclists than drivers. The French also took the smart step of banning electric scooters after too many accidents. This too makes the streets calmer than when I lived there in the late ’90s. Interestingly, unlike many other European cities, Paris’s inner-city population has slightly declined. Dichtestress (crowding stress) isn’t really an issue.

The Culture
We visited two exhibitions: Niki de Saint Phalle & Jean Tinguely at the Grand Palais, and the final show at the Centre Pompidou before its years-long renovation. What impressed me beside the art (and beyond the crowds) was how engaged French kids were. Some wandered with little headsets, listening closely to the audio guides. Even babies in strollers were part of the family outing. This is how you pass on culture: naturally, as part of life. Kids learn early how to behave in museums.
But Paris is not just fashion; it’s architecture, gardens, concerts. The French are incredibly generous with their cultural offerings. I still remember a Bastille Day where Jean-Michel Jarre performed by the Eiffel Tower, fireworks lighting up the night - all free to the public. Free classical concerts in churches were common too. These experiences show how deeply the French value culture, and how introducing it early ensures it stays with you for life.
Of course, not all is perfect. France was late in embracing hashtag . It took the heartbreaking case of Gisèle Perigout for a shift to happen, and only then were many perpetrators finally held accountable.
🗼Paris, to me, is a place where fashion, lifestyle, and culture intersect seamlessly. A city that both dazzles and teaches. If you want to add a bit of French style into your daily look, this may be a good start.
Bonne journée!

Did you know that your Denims originate from the place "Nîmes" ("de Nîmes")?
Join me on today's hashtag with Denim.

Denim isn’t just a fabric - it’s a statement.
From the factory floor to the fashion runway, denim continues to evolve. Innovation in washes, fits, and sustainable dyeing is shaping a smarter denim story.
Denim is the one constant in an ever-changing wardrobe. Its reinvention - from rigid to recycled - proves that true style stands the test of time.
Denim has shaped generations. Today, it’s time we reshape denim: with sustainable sourcing, ethical production, and design that respects both people and planet.

What's your favourite piece of denim and why is it a pair of Jeans?
