Kinè takes its name from MAANA’s research and collection of African names.

According to the artist, “Kinè” is a traditional Senegalese name representing grace and elegance qualities that form the conceptual heart of this work.

Through his semi-realist visual language, MAANA connects the individual subject with a wider African cultural context, transforming the name into an expression of identity and presence.

Within his broader practice centered on identity, memory, vulnerability, and resilience Kinè becomes another chapter in MAANA’s exploration of human experience through visual storytelling.

MAANA — Manishimwe Louis is a Rwandan multidisciplinary artist whose practice is rooted in visual storytelling and human emotion.

He began creating art in 2010 with an early focus on painting. Around 2013, he entered a three-year program at Nyundo Art School, completing his studies in 2016.

Blending semi-realism and mixed media, MAANA works with materials including oil paint, charcoal, and acrylic. Through these different techniques, he explores deeply human themes of identity, memory, vulnerability, and resilience.

His artistic language connects personal experience with universal emotions, using the human figure and visual storytelling to reflect on the experiences that shape who we are.

As Rwanda’s representative at 195XGlobal, MAANA brings another unique perspective to a growing international dialogue connecting countries and cultures through art.

Between Sunset and Sunrise is a deeply personal reflection on ALI BEN’s Moroccan village, a place held close to his heart, yet shaped by contrasts between beauty, prosperity, stillness, and uncertainty.

The dark mountains and ocean symbolize moments when light and possibility can feel hidden. Yet beyond the darkness lies an illuminating sunrise, a metaphor for finding a path forward and reaching toward a wider horizon.

Set within the Mediterranean landscape, the painting also reflects the changing rhythm of village life: the vitality and prosperity of summer contrasted with the stillness of the off-season, when time can almost seem frozen.

There is both attachment and tension, an invisible pull toward home alongside the fear of feeling confined by it.

Ultimately, Between Sunset and Sunrise is about a universal journey:

moving through darkness without losing sight of the possibility of light.

Today, 195XGlobal had the pleasure of visiting a beautiful exhibition in Basel at Atelier EVE Basel | Pralinen & Chocolaterie | Art Café EVE Chocolate Design 🇨🇭 | by Veronika Eitenaier, located at Pilgerstrasse 2. ✨

A special place where art, creativity, and the craft of chocolate-making come together to create a truly unique atmosphere.

One of the highlights for us was seeing Judit Nagy L. Judit Nagy L.© again and experiencing her art in person. ❤️ It was wonderful to reconnect, spend time together, and see her works presented in this inspiring setting.
