Instagram is no longer a photo-sharing app and will focus on video.
Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, shares his intention to expand the Instagram app into more areas than just photo sharing. As a result, in the next few days, Instagram will be focusing in four key areas such as creators, videos, shopping, and messaging.
Video, in particular, seems to be a major focus for Instagram as it is an entertainment service that has tremendously grown on all dominant platforms at the moment. To beat the fierce competition, the company will try to move beyond its longstanding image as a photo-sharing platform and develop new video features such as full-screen, immersive, entertaining, and mobile-first video. In addition, Instagram will show more video to users with the aim of improving discoverability. This will include displaying videos from previously untracked sources in users' feeds.
