We’re heartbroken and devastated to learn about the passing of our athlete and friend
Kai was one of the first athletes to take a chance on us back in the early days in Whistler. When we told him our vision for our first film, ‘The Front Lines’, Kai jumped at the opportunity to explore his own impact on the planet, bringing us to his campus at UBC to chat with Professor Simon Donner about climate change and the future of the sport he centered his life around.
Kai had more stories about his adventures than many people will get in their lifetime. Most recently, he embarked on an epic mission to Kazakhstan, sharing his film ‘Tien Shan Dream’. Getting those updates from him, and seeing the passion he had for meeting new people and exploring new places was infectious. We have loved telling stories of Kai’s adventures to others, and we will continue telling stories about him for years to come.
It was hard to find Kai without a smile on his face. Whether it was on mountain or off mountain, Kai was always there to crack a little joke or give you something to brighten your day.
Kai brought energy, curiosity, and kindness into every space he entered, and that impact will stay with all of us.
Sending all of our love to Luke, Julia, and John.
