Having started this page in late 2018, it's been fascinnating to follow the developent of the wine world with all its ups and downs and unexpected turns. Through all this, I've noticed that I'm always drawn towards winemakers that want to push the envelope, find new and improved ways to let their wines find their full expression. Paul from has been an amazing example of this. He took over his family's estate five years ago and brought a new wind into it while respecting the heritage that comes with a 500 year-old estate.
Today he's known for his work with amphoras in which his wines develop wonderfully. The Clos du Chateau in this picture is one of those wines. A massale selection chasselas left to mature for six months with minimal intervention. It's delicious and I'm already looking forward to tasting it again soon 🥂

Spring is finally here, and with it come the first 2025 rosés!

This one from Domaine Maison Blanche is made from Mondeuse grapes.
It's fruity and fresh with notes of strawberries but also benefits from the intensity that is typical for the variety.

It's a really delicious and crucially interesting wine!

Sometimes the best shots are unexpected 📸

I came to Paul with the idea of taking a picture in his barrel cellar. He then told me that one of them was empty and that it could make for a cool pic. A few minutes of light setup later, and this is the result: one of my favorite pictures of last year 😁

(2/2) Antoine took over the family estate from his dad Yves. While he of course brought his own style with him, he’s also continuing his father's work and exploration around different varieties. Yves is also still around to help and guide him in his decisions. The balance of experience and curiosity between the two of them brings a great dynamic.

One of their leitmotivs is “le chasselas dans tous ses états”, or chasselas in all its states. Their range has many different chasselas, some classical, some with special ageing, even dessert wines. I really like that they manage to make wines where anyone could find something that really clicks with them, while staying true to their style 🥂

If you are close to Mont-sur-Rolle, you should go to the estate this weekend on December 6 & 7 where Yves and Antoine are hosting an artisanal Christmas market 🎄

(1/2) When I first met Antoine, I was immediately charmed by his laughter and amazing energy. That alone already made me want to try his wines. But learning more about his philosophy and approach to winemaking intrigued me even more.

In short, he aims to find harmony between nature, the vineyard, the soil and the winemaker. To achieve this, he keeps an open mind and stays proactively curious. His methods vary from biodynamic techniques with naturopathic elements, to a more traditional bio style of treatments, which gives him a wide pallet of tools to work with.

How does this all apply to his vineyards? He tests different techniques on his plots to study and measure their effects and find the best way forwards. Discovering his work and mindset was such a refreshing treat.
