Design proposal for the next series of Swiss banknotes as part of the Swiss National Bank’s invited competition. The concept was ranked first place by the advisory board. However, a different design was chosen for the final realisation.

No country in Europe is as heavily influenced by differences in altitude as Switzerland. Around 70 per cent of its territory consists of mountains – a distinctive feature of the landscape that has a significant cultural and economic impact. As a hard currency, the Swiss franc is internationally synonymous with stability and reliability. The concept combines these two aspects into one narrative: rock as a symbol of geographical origin and economic substance.

Each banknote features a stone collected at a specific altitude, photographed at original scale with maximum precision. The stones form a mineral spectrum ranging from river pebble (lowlands) to rock crystal (high Alps) – each one a distinct portrait of place and geological time.

The reverse sides show abstracted landscapes based on Swisstopo data – real places reduced to their topography, lighting and form. The strong gradation illustrates the typical settlement structures of the altitude levels.

This creates a dialogic concept: front = microscopic proximity, back = macroscopic distance.

The high-resolution printing of banknotes allows for an extremely detailed reproduction of the mineral surfaces and typical characteristics of the landscapes.

Initially, more than 300 designers applied to be considered for the project. Twelve of these were selected to participate in the invited competition.

Zürich Card rebranding: a new look for the official city pass from Zurich Tourism for visitors and locals. The offer is constantly being expanded and, for example, now includes free admission to almost all Zurich museums.

The rebranding combines a stylised card shape with an emotional imagery, making the advantages of the card even more visible.

At the heart of this expansion is a stylised card shape that can be used flexibly: it frames image content, highlights it in a targeted manner or forms a grid or mosaic that can be filled with a variety of image motifs and text elements.

The overall design of the Zürich Card is perfectly integrated into the existing identity of Zurich Tourism, which we have developed in 2017.

The rebranding was implemented across various channels: from posters, tram advertising and digital screens to the website and social media channels, video clips, web banners and the Zurich City Guide app. The visual redesign ensures a consistent, recognisable appearance across all media.
