CAMEROON DIGITAL SKILLS CAMPAIGN YAOUNDE 7th - 9th August 2019 ‘An Initiative to Promote Youth Employability & Entrepreneurship in the Digital Age’ The Cameroon National Digital Skills Campaign is a first of its kind Skills Development and Employability initiative led by Key leaders in the Cameroon Tech Space, demonstrating their commitment to the communities they work in by tackling what the African Development Bank has described as ‘one the most pressing issues of our times’: Youth Unemployment and the ever increasing Digital Skills Gap1. Today, Digital Skills will not only give young people access to high level employment2 but they can also empower them to create tailor-made solutions to Cameroon’s problems and much-needed employment and wealth for themselves and their communities. Online freelancing platforms, for instance are allowing hiring managers to connect with millions of freelancers around the world. Between 2016 and 2017, projects sourced by Fortune 500 companies via online freelancing platforms grew up to 26%, with popular categories of work being software development, design and creative, and analytics3. Remote internet-based learning and work offer great new potential for Cameroon’s unemployed youth. The digital revolution is an exceptional opportunity for Africa, both as an accelerator for development and for the creation of entirely new sectors of activity4.
