Poultry mistakes you should avoid

1. Buying chicks from unknown source

2. Starting without a cost analysis: A proper feasibility analysis should be carried out on the area of poultry you intend to invest. Resources needed should be available from start to finish because your birds won't manage with you when you don't feed them. And it should be noted that only feed accounts for 70% of the expenses incurred in poultry farming.

3. Neglecting biosecurity measures: Any form of neglect of compromise when it comes to biosecurity can land you in d!saster. Compromising biosecurity measures can cost you your life investment, please make biosecurity a priority on your farm.

4. Neglecting record keeping: All expenses and returns from your farm operations should be properly recorded.

5. Too much or too little heat during brooding: Day Old Chicks (DOCs) cannot regulate their body temperature, they thereby rely on external heat to stay warm. If the heat is not sufficient, chicks may pill up on each other causing injury or death. Also, if the heat is too much, it will lead to dehydration and high susceptibility to diseases and increased mortality. Proper temperature encourages chicks to eat and drink more which supports their growth and development. The best way to determine temperature is to pay attention to how the chicks act. If they cluster around the heat source, they are too cold, if they crowd away from the heat and pant, they are too warm, if they are evenly distributed, they are comfortable. Temperature changes as they grow, higher temperature is needed immediately after hatching and lesser heat as the feather and mature.

6. Poor feed quality: Neglecting feed quality can lead to malnourished chicken affecting their growth, egg production and overall health. Adjust their diet based on age and purpose whether they are broilers or layers. (for broilers give starter from week 1 to week 4 and finisher from week 5 upwards, for pullets, give chicks mash from week 1 to week 8, change to grower from week 9 to week 20 and give layers mash from week 20 and above)

Gestation period: is the period of time between conception and birth.

The gestation period for domestic pigs (sows) is typically around 114 days, which can also be expressed as three months, three weeks, and three. This duration can vary slightly depending on factors such as breed and individual health of the sow, but 114 days is the standard reference.

The main nutritional components that make up pig feed are:

1. **Energy Sources**: These are typically carbohydrates and fats that provide the energy necessary for growth and production. Common sources include corn, barley, wheat, and soybean meal.

2. **Proteins**: Essential for growth, muscle development, and overall health. Protein sources can include soybean meal, canola meal, and various animal by-products.

3. **Amino Acids**: Specific amino acids like lysine, methionine, and threonine are crucial for growth and must often be supplemented in feeds.

4. **Vitamins**: Necessary for metabolic processes, vitamins such as A, D, E, and B-complex vitamins play vital roles in health and productivity.

5. **Minerals**: Important for bone development, enzyme function, and overall health. Key minerals include calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and trace minerals like zinc and copper.

6. **Fiber**: Although not a primary energy source, fiber is important for maintaining digestive health and promoting gut function. Ingredients like alfalfa or beet pulp can provide fiber.

7. **Additives**: These may include probiotics, prebiotics, antibiotics (as per regulations), and enzymes to enhance growth, improve digestion, and boost overall health.

The formulation of pig feed should balance these components based on the specific needs of the pigs, including their age, weight, and production goals.

USES OF MORINGA PLANT AND HOW TO USE IT IN POULTRY FARMING.

-Moringa plant, also known as the drumstick tree, is a highly nutritious plant that can be used in various ways in poultry farming. Here are some of its uses and how to use it:

-Feed supplement: Moringa leaves are rich in essential nutrients, including protein, vitamins, and minerals, that are beneficial to poultry health and productivity. You can dry the leaves and grind them into a powder, which can then be added to your poultry feed to supplement their nutrition.

-Immune booster: Moringa leaves contain natural antioxidants, which help boost the immune system of poultry birds, making them more resistant to diseases and infections.

-Antibacterial agent: Moringa leaves contain antibacterial compounds that can help prevent and control bacterial infections in poultry. Adding moringa powder to the feed can help reduce the incidence of diseases such as coccidiosis and salmonellosis.

-Growth promoter: Moringa leaves also contain growth-promoting compounds, which can help improve the growth rate and weight gain of poultry birds, making them more marketable.

To use moringa in poultry farming, you can follow these steps:

-Harvest fresh moringa leaves and wash them thoroughly.

-Dry the leaves in the shade until they are dry and crisp.

-Grind the dried leaves into a fine powder using a mortar and pestle or a grinder.

-Mix the moringa powder into your poultry feed, at a ratio of 2-5% of the total feed, depending on the age and weight of the birds.

-Store the moringa powder in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight.
