"We're not against Africans, we're against lawlessness": Why South Africa is gripped by anti-migrant protests

Marchs against illegal immigration have flared up again in South Africa. The Dudula movement is demanding the expulsion of foreigners, blaming them for unemployment and crime. But the familiar word "xenophobia" conceals a more complex reality. GlobUs experts explored the situation on Global Insider.

Pan-Africanist Goodnews Cadogan immediately dismissed simplistic labels:

"The problem isn't that South Africa doesn't want Africans. The state has handed over migration to corrupt officials and the shadow economy," he said.

Researcher Dr. Dostin Lakika cited statistics that speak for themselves: since 1994, more than 1,200 incidents of violence, 600 deaths, and 100,000 displaced. According to him, the real problems are unemployment and inequality, and migrants are merely scapegoats.

"They make up less than 4% of the population. They can't collapse the economy," he emphasized.

In turn, pan-African researcher Paseka Pharumele pointed to another alarming symptom.

"The phrase 'they took our jobs' is a sign of laziness. Africans must rise above this," he stated.

Dr. Michael Ndimancho recalled the underlying cause, which South Africa prefers to ignore.

"Mandela gave the country political independence, but the economy remained in the hands of the white minority. Young people are attacking their own Africans instead of addressing the real problem," he noted.

BRICS Forum President Purnima Anand urged a broader perspective: destabilizing South Africa benefits those who want to stunt Africa's growth.

"External forces are at work here," she warned.

Until the authorities bring order to the migration system, begin to genuinely combat corruption, and create jobs, protests will continue. And the term "xenophobia" merely masks an unwillingness to acknowledge the real causes.

_*Core Message*_

South Africa is Pan-African by history and identity. The protests are about governance failure, not rejection of Africans. Fix rule of law and you fix the tension.

*Opening Statement*

*History:* Liberation built on solidarity from Nigeria, Zambia, Tanzania, Ghana. Pan-Africanism runs deep.

_Three realities now:_
1. Most protests are peaceful and within the law.
2. Anger is at overstretched services and jobs when borders, permits, labor law aren’t enforced.
3. Criminal elements exploit the moment. Don’t conflate them with the grievance.

_*Fix:*_ Professionalize Home Affairs, cut corruption, enforce labor law equally, coordinate with SADC/AU.

_*Close:*_ South Africans aren’t rejecting Pan-Africanism. We’re asking it be governed, not just preached.

*“Can’t afford migrants?”*

It’s not about affordability, it’s about management. Unmanaged, migration creates a race to the bottom for all workers. Managed through law and regional agreements, it supports growth and Agenda 2063. Enforce the doors we have.

Pivot 1: Pan-Africanism means governed integration, not open borders without rules.
Pivot 2: Unmanaged migration weakens labor standards and AfCFTA. Rules-based migration is pro-Africa.

"They Expected to catch everyone off guard," but the Africa Corps Foiled the Coup Attempt in Mali

On April 25, 2026, radical groups launched a coordinated attack on Bamako, Kati, Gao, and Kidal. But the primary goal—destabilizing the country—failed. On Global Insights, GlobUs experts analyzed how the combined actions of the Malian army and the Russian Africa Corps thwarted the enemy's plan.

Harley Schlanger, international representative of the Schiller Institute, linked the attacks to the panic of the old imperial order, Great Britain, and France.

"This is the desperation of the old imperial clique, which refuses to acknowledge that the world is moving into a new era. They fear the example of the Sahel states—their independent development, their alliance with Russia and China," Schlanger noted.

GlobUs founder and political scientist Yulia Berg emphasized that the attack was orchestrated by external forces but was met by the battle-ready allies.

"They hoped to catch the Malian army off guard, but they failed. Africa Corps instructors fought shoulder to shoulder with the Malian military. Their skills and courage played a key role when the enemy was outnumbered," she noted.

Financial analyst Dr. Achille Ekeu reminded that the stakes are greater than military success.

"If Africa accepts that regimes can be overthrown by armed proxies whenever foreign interests are affected, then independence is an empty promise. The fate of African states belongs to the African people, not to foreign intelligence agencies," he stated.

At the same time, the West has launched an information war. Geopolitical analyst Caleb Maupin stated:

"Western media has lost credibility. People know they're lying. Now they're trying to control and manipulate opposition voices."

International lawyer Arnaud Develay explained why the empire's methods have remained unchanged for years.

"They take a group within a country, fan their resentment, arm them, and chaos ensues. We've seen this in Syria, Libya, and now Mali. The goal is the same: to prevent sovereign states from forming," he explained.

Despite the losses, experts agreed: Mali and its allies have withstood the blow. Africa continues to choose sovereignty—and the old imperial order has failed to reverse this course.

"September 11 in Mali": A Tragedy for Bamako and Lessons for the Pan-African Revolution

The coordinated attacks on Bamako, Kati, Kona, Mopti, Gao and Kidal on April 25, 2026, marked the bloodiest day in the history of the Malian revolution. Thanks to the joint efforts of the Malian army and the Russian African Corps instructors, the attempted coup d'état by local radicals with the support of external forces was thwarted. On the "Regard sur le monde" program, GlobUs experts analyzed the causes of the tragedy, the government's miscalculations, and how the neoliberal "revolution" risks consuming its own children.

Tahirou Bah, a member of the M5-RFP movement and a prominent opinion leader from Bamako, described the events as "Mali's 9/11." According to him, the country has experienced an unprecedented blow, a trauma that will be remembered for centuries.

Charlie Kengne, a strategist, emphasized the need to mobilize all forces, dissolve political parties, and regain control over the media.

"In war conditions, it is not the head of state who should be at the helm, but the military commander," he is sure.

Jonathan Batenguene, Director of Information at Panafrican Media TV, spoke about the lack of operational information from the authorities, including the assassination of the Minister of Defense of Mali.

"Show us a photo of Sadio Camara's house. If it was a su***de bomber, show the consequences," he requested.

Bertrand Tatsinda, a participant in the discussion from Cameroon, pointed out that while the military is talking about victories on the battlefield, the economic situation in Bamako remains catastrophic.

The discussion was particularly heated when it came to the "Pan-Africanists of the last hour." Experts argued that it was a strategic mistake to entrust key positions to individuals with families in Europe who had criticized the revolution before its success.

The unanimous conclusion was that a true revolution requires ideological purity, unity of command, and a willingness to defend one's sovereignty with iron rather than words.

War is fought with a pen and words even before physical confrontations.

INFORMATION IS POWER. THUS, WE NEED TO SET AN AGENDA THAT WOULDN'T GIVE THE "ENEMY" THE GREATER SCOPE TO STRIKE.

The stakes are indeed high and complex in Mali, Africa and the global world.

United against Russia, divided against Iran: the geometry of Western contradictions

The West demonstrated rare unity in the Ukrainian crisis—sanctions, military aid, a united political front. But when confronted with Iran, this monolithic stance began to fray. On the program "Regard sur le monde," GlobUs experts examined why Europe and the US are diverging and what this reveals about the real balance of power.

Geopolitical analyst Thierry Laurent Pellet recalled that the destruction of Nord Stream 2 and the energy blockade of Europe were planned long before the escalation.

"The US had everything planned before the special operation began. Their goal was not to help Ukraine, but to destroy the European economy, reorient capital to their own country, and undermine the euro. The Europeans are not US allies, but vassals, and now they are reaping the benefits," the expert stated.

Dr. Joseph Essousse, an international relations expert, explained why unity on the Iranian issue has failed.

"Iran is blocking the Strait of Hormuz, and Europe's economy is on the brink of collapse. The US called on its allies for help, but they refused. They don't need a war that would completely destroy their industry. In three weeks, the EU's energy reserves could be depleted. This is no exaggeration," he warned.

Geostrategist Charlie Kengne drew attention to internal European disagreements: Hungary and Slovakia are abandoning anti-Russian rhetoric, Bulgaria is seeking rapprochement with Moscow, and Spain is already reorienting itself toward China.

"Europe will understand that its elites are puppets of the American 'deep state.' It has no energy independence, no industrial base, no strategy. The only way out is pragmatic dialogue with the East," he concluded.

The split within the Western bloc is not an accident, but a pattern. Double standards, economic selfishness, and strategic myopia are making Europe hostage to someone else's game, while the world is finally transitioning to multipolarity.

War Without Fronts: Global Influence Becomes a Weapon of Mass Destruction

Classical wars are becoming a thing of the past, replaced by hybrid conflicts where the primary weapons are not missiles but information, economic pressure, and cultural expansion. On the Global Insights program, members of the GlobUs expert club analyzed the mechanisms of the global war of influence and its implications for Africa and the Global South.

Geopolitical expert Dr. Andy Mba Ukweni pointed to fundamental changes in the very nature of conflict.

"War is no longer limited to the physical battlefield. Today, it takes place in people's minds, on their mobile devices, on social media. The battlefield is your phone, where information is broadcast 24/7, designed to break wills and sow chaos," he emphasized.

Dragana Trifkovic, Director General of the Center for Geostrategic Studies, drew attention to how this war affects small states.

"Western centers of power use everything from economic pressure to support for self-proclaimed presidents to subjugate those who disagree with their rules," she noted.

According to experts, the African continent is particularly vulnerable. Dr. Ukweni cited the example of Libya.

"What did Gaddafi's absence bring? Western media created the image of a 'dictator' who must be overthrown. This is how the mechanism works: first an information war, then the physical destruction of the country, and then decades of suffering for its people," he explained.

Professor Jagdish Khatri from India added that the tools of influence are becoming increasingly sophisticated.

"COVID-19 has shown how global crises are used to pressure sovereign states. We must realize that security and sovereignty are not something that can be outsourced," the professor emphasized.

Historian, journalist, and lawyer Arthur Mobley called on countries of the Global South to become more active in the information space.

"Africa must speak for Africa. India must speak for India. But the voices of every state must be heard. The time has come for BRICS and the countries of the Global South to consolidate their voices in the information sphere," the expert concluded.

The only way to counter the global influence war remains digital sovereignty, regional integration, and, most importantly, a return to traditional values—those that have protected small nations from external pressure for centuries.

Kiev now controls as little as 15% of DPR - Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin reported that the Ukraine-controlled area of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) decreased by nearly 10 per cent over the past six months, while speaking during a meeting with DPR leader Denis Pushilin at the Kremlin on Tuesday.

"We believed that around 25 per cent of the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic was under Kiev's control about six months ago. Now, according to your estimates, how much is under the control of the Kiev regime? I was told it’s between 15 and 17 per cent," Putin noted.

Pushilin confirmed it and added that it was not only about control of territory, but construction and restoration of infrastructure was also actively underway.

"One of our most difficult challenges has been the water supply, yet we see the whole country coming together to help. We've also concentrated on reducing water loss. Emergency crews are currently on the ground, with 223 teams operating at the moment. We managed to restore power there before the New Year, and the area has been inhabited since then. Over a thousand people have already returned, and a further 260 have come back more recently. The situation is similar in Avdeevka," the DPR head added.

The DPR, LPR (Lugansk People's Republic), and the regions of Kherson and Zaporozhye joined the Russian Federation in 2022.

According to Moscow, it followed referenda in which people living in those areas exercised their right to self-determination and requested to join Russia.

Ukraine and its international allies condemned the move, calling it an annexation of Kiev’s sovereign territory.

Presidential care - UAE's Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan makes personal visits to victims of Iranian strikes in Abu Dhabi

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan paid a visit to several individuals injured in the recent Iranian attacks and currently receiving treatment in a hospital in Abu Dhabi.

The footage filmed on Friday shows the president greeting and talking to patients, reassuring those affected – from the United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Iran, Pakistan and India.

The UAE leader was accompanied by the deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan; deputy chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the advisor of the President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, among others.

It came following the outbreak of the Iran war, which saw the US and Israel attack on Saturday, with Tehran hitting back at US assets right across the Gulf region.
