Chinese netizens have limited opportunities to learn about companies operating abroad.

So any business expanding in China needs a carefully crafted social media presence. For a B2B marketer, it may sound like social media isn’t the best strategy — but now more than ever, deals start through social media, and WeChat primarily.

By now, you know you need a WeChat presence if you’re doing marketing in China.

But how do you get the best of your OA as a B2B brand? Try these 4 tips to optimize your business’s WeChat:

- First, it’s crucial that you have an Official Account. Much like your FB page, your OA is the place users will visit to learn all about you. And much like your blog or other social media, the longer your account is active, the more likely it is to show up in search results.

- Second, implement growth tactics to build your follower base. Promote your account at in-person events by displaying your QR code in booths and marketing collateral. Encourage your sales reps to actively mention the account across their professional network and include your OA’s QR code on business cards and email signatures.
Create a WeChat group, similar to Facebook groups, to nurture leads through private traffic. WeChat groups are excellent for connecting one-on-one with potential and existing customers as well as giving them the opportunity to grow their network.

- Next, be strategic about your posting. On WeChat, you can’t make significant edits to your content once it’s published. And even if you delete a post, it will have used up your monthly posting allowance. Depending on your account type (service or subscription), you’ll be able to post a certain number of times per month, so each one is precious. Make sure everything that goes live is valuable to your audience. When it comes to WeChat OA, content quality always goes before quantity.

- And finally, leverage WeChat as a sales & customer service channel through WeCom (WeChat for business) and personal WeChat accounts as dedicated support channels.

A new wave of COVID restrictions took in-person conferences off the table for most businesses in China.

But is this the end of this type of event?

Probably not. In-person conferences offer opportunities you simply can’t replicate online. So we don’t anticipate them being entirely discarded in business.

However, virtual press conferences have opened the door to a whole new world for B2B and tech companies. With lower costs, a simpler setup, and virtually no limitations, a virtual press conference can be an exciting format to try for any business expanding to China without physically traveling.

Many businesses wonder why they struggle to capture attention when they first arrive in China.

While there could be many reasons, one of the most common ones we’ve seen is that they don’t have a localized brand message to attract media or audience attention.

Some marketers argue that a localized brand message can detract from a global strategy. But in reality, it takes the Chinese context into account to support a good product-market fit. Without a localized message, you risk an unengaged audience and little — if any — media coverage.
