🌎 On May 23rd, Travel World China (TWC) was honoured to once again deliver the Peru Tourism Workshop in Beijing, proudly hosted by PROMPERÚ – the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism.

Held at the InterContinental Beijing Sanlitun, this second edition opened with a warm welcome speech by Mr. Gonzalo Talavera Alvarez, Minister and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Peru in China, followed by a detailed destination presentation delivered by Mr. Luis Miguel Callebo, Trade and Tourism Counsellor at PROMPERÚ Beijing Office.

The morning sessions offered in-depth insights into Peru’s rich cultural, historical, and natural offerings, laying a solid foundation for the one-to-one business meetings that followed throughout the afternoon and lasted until early evening.

With 18 premium exhibitors from Peru and around 40 leading Chinese travel agencies, the workshop highlighted the strong interest and growing potential for collaboration between the two countries’ tourism industries.

This successful event is a testament to TWC’s ongoing commitment to connecting world-class destinations with China’s dynamic outbound market, and to the power of tourism in bridging cultures and creating long-term partnerships. 🌐

🌍 Exciting Shifts in Chinese Outbound Travel 🌍
This summer, Chinese travelers are venturing beyond traditional destinations, as the spotlight shines on the Middle East and Africa. The evolving landscape of outbound tourism unveils new opportunities for both the industry and destinations alike.

In February, Thailand emerged as a hotspot when China resumed group travel. However, social media rumors in March caused a dip in Thai tourism, affecting interest in Vietnam, Cambodia, and other destinations. Presently, Vietnam is 10% recovered, Cambodia 5%, Sri Lanka 15%, and Bali 25%.

European destinations faced challenges due to visa difficulties, impacting France, Italy, and Switzerland. Visa demand has overwhelmed appointment capacities, expected to persist until September. Conversely, Japan, South Korea, the United States, Canada, and Australia are not yet open for group travel.

Ground handling costs and airfare prices surged by 25-30% this year, with even higher increases for European routes.

Amidst these hurdles, the Middle East and Africa have emerged as "dark horses" in outbound tourism. Egypt and the United Arab Emirates witnessed remarkable growth since February. Streamlined group visa procedures and high flight recovery rates played key roles. Compared to 2019, Middle Eastern and African travel has skyrocketed, with Egyptian routes more than doubling visitor numbers.

As the landscape shifts, it's an exciting time for the travel industry and destinations to explore these evolving opportunities.
