SEEKING JR. - MIDLEVEL GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Graphic design-based company in Shanghai seeks motivated Jr. graphic designer to join the team! Kern is a small design company providing a range of services including graphic design, illustration, web design and consulting. Our design projects and marketing initiatives are approached with strategy, insight, and creative thinking. As a graphic designer, you will be working with a variety of clients in various industries. We need a designer or illustrator with a positive attitude and
an eye for good design!

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design projects for marketing collateral, corporate identity systems, print and digital media, environmental
graphics, packaging and more.

• Participate in branding strategy and implementation for new projects

• Develop custom graphics and design themes for marketing materials

• Coordinate with outside vendors for printing and material sourcing

• Work on concurrent assignments while consistently meeting deadlines.

EXPERIENCE
• 1-3+ years graphic design or illustration experience

• Proficient with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop is a must. (3D software is a plus)

• Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

• Basic knowledge in creating properly formatted files for print and web

• Excellent design or illustration skills

• Experience designing for the F&B industry such as packaging or menu design is desirable

• Web design experience or basic Wordpress knowledge is a plus but not necessary

• Knowing how to speak and read Chinese is recommended and desirable but not required

HERO Protein is a new and upcoming plant-based brand in the China market. HERO Protein breaks the traditional view of meat and provides an alternative source of protein that is 100% plant based with no antibiotics, no trans fat or hormones.

This project focused on creating a vibrant and fun look to the brand that would help stand out from current competitors in the market. Using bold colors and typography each product is assigned their own unique color to make each product stand out from one another. Kern worked with HERO Protein’s copywriter to create the brand identity, logo, packaging designs and website front end design for the product launch in 2020. With the plant based market rapidly growing in China be prepared to see much more from HERO Protein in restaurants and with products hitting shelves in early 2021.

All our client gifts are packed and ready to be shipped. Over 100 gifts were designed, hand crafted, painted and packed all by our little Santa helpers.

This year for our all of our wonderful clients we created custom designed, laser cut, hand painted wooden ornaments. A set of three will be sent to each company in a little Santa bag. We hope you love them as much as we did making them.

HaTien came to us with a vision of opening a new restaurant in Shanghai that would serve authentic Vietnamese food in a relaxing and fun atmosphere.

We took direct inspiration from the name Hà Tiên which in Vietnamese means River Spirit. The brand identity uses a strong presence of reds, blues and whites to tie in the natural colors of the river as well as drawing inspiration from local fishing boats. Throughout the branding, the use of colors and textures represent water, fishing and the natural elements found in the region.

With her years of expertise in Brand Positioning, Communication Strategy, Insight Mining, and Workshop Plannings, we are now able to offer so much more. Yeyo was created in 2016 by Kiwi expat Christiana Zhu in an effort to maintain a healthy lifestyle. After moving to Beijing from New Zealand, her mission was to produce a vegan coconut yogurt that was dairy-free and sugar-free.

Yeyo came to Kern with an existing and well recognizable identity but were now looking for a refresh and an overall update to their logo, marketing materials and show booth. Kern’s mission was to re-brand the company and to keep in mind the history and the already existing aesthetic. Our goal was to propose a new stylish identity and produce an eye-catching harmonious line of product packaging (coming soon).

The end result is a well-balanced and coherent brand that looks fresh, stylish and fun. The right balance of color, playful typography, simple choices of tropical photography and a new set of icons brought the brand to new heights and garnered further attention from their fan base.

We are very happy to say that YEYO has been a well-rounded project that managed to catch our excitement and we have been happy to collaborate on such a creative and refreshing project.

In the coming months keep an eye out for our brand new line of packaging that will be hitting retail stores all throughout China.

This past week we got to see the fruits of our labor and all the design work we created for the Generation First Summer Camp in action. Kids really loving their new camp shirts, summer passports and fun stickers they earned. It's been so much fun working with the GF team and making their camp a success!
