"I Founded IPOB For The Good Of Ndi Igbo" -
Nnamdi Kanu Tells Court |

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Tuesday admitted in court to founding both IPOB and Radio Biafra, the online platform through which he addressed followers across the world, ABN TV reports.

Speaking during proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Kanu stated that he started the movement for the overall good of the Igbo people. According to him, all his broadcasts were public and available on Facebook, dismissing claims that IPOB operates as a secret organization.

When questioned by the Department of State Services (DSS) about individuals he was working with, Kanu maintained that he works alone and personally handles all broadcasts on Radio Biafra.

The presiding judge also ordered that a video recording of Kanu’s interrogation be played in court as part of the ongoing trial.

"Dino Melaye Ran For Kogi Governorship But Didn’t Vote For Himself" – PDP Chairman

Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has voiced strong concerns about internal party loyalty, specifically targeting Senator Dino Melaye’s conduct during the recent Kogi gubernatorial election.

In an interview with *Daily Trust*, Damagum addressed Melaye’s recent remarks dismissing the PDP as a "once upon a time party." Damagum did not hold back, directly attributing some of the party’s current struggles to Melaye’s actions.

“Dino’s statement is reflective of the problem within our ranks,” Damagum said, citing Melaye’s recent gubernatorial run in Kogi State. The PDP Chairman criticized Melaye for allegedly not participating in the voting process of his own election, stating, “He didn’t go out to vote in his own election. This lack of commitment is a serious issue.”

Damagum further questioned Melaye’s impact on the party’s reputation, asserting that anyone who benefits from the party’s platform has a duty to enhance its standing. He acknowledged the inevitability of both victories and defeats but stressed that candidates should strive to lose with dignity and integrity.

The tension within the PDP has escalated, with Senator Melaye facing suspension from the party due to alleged anti-party activities. This development has intensified the internal disputes affecting the PDP.

"Dangote Refinery To Sell Petrol Exclusively To NNPC" - Federal Government Of Nigeria

The Presidential Committee on the Sale of Crude Oil and Refined Products has announced that the Dangote Refinery will exclusively supply Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). This arrangement will make NNPC the sole distributor of the refinery's petrol output.

Zacch Adedeji, a member of the committee and Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday. He revealed that the loading of the first batch of petrol from Dangote Refinery would begin on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

"I am pleased to announce that all agreements have been finalized, and the first batch of PMS will be loaded starting Sunday, September 15. Additionally, from October 1, NNPC will begin supplying crude oil to Dangote Refinery, with payments to be made in naira," Adedeji said. He added that Dangote Refinery, in turn, would supply PMS and diesel of equivalent value to the domestic market, also to be paid for in naira.

Quote
"For now, PMS will only be sold to NNPC, which will then distribute it to various marketers,"
Adedeji clarified.

This position was later confirmed by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, during a separate press conference in Abuja. He emphasized that independent marketers interested in purchasing petrol will need to buy it through NNPC's trading arm.

This agreement marks a critical development in the country's refined fuel supply chain, setting the terms for the sale of crude oil to Dangote Refinery and the distribution of refined products. However, the decision contradicts an earlier statement by NNPCL, which claimed it would not be the sole distributor of petrol produced by the Dangote Refinery.

The new arrangement is expected to streamline fuel distribution in Nigeria, but it has raised questions about market access for independent fuel marketers.

President Tinubu Approves N108b Allocation to States to Tackle Natural Disasters

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a total allocation of N108 billion to support Nigerian states in addressing natural disasters, with each state receiving N3 billion.

This initiative is part of the Federal Government's efforts to aid states in managing humanitarian crises and environmental challenges, particularly those exacerbated by severe weather and infrastructure failures.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, whose capital city is facing severe flooding due to the failure of the Alau Dam water channels, confirmed that Borno State has received N3 billion from the Federal Government to tackle the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Governor Zulum highlighted the importance of the funds in mitigating the adverse effects of the disaster on the residents of the state.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, in affirming the President's endorsement of the disaster management fund, emphasized the administration's commitment to partnering with states to address these critical issues.

Shettima stated: “The President has shown his zeal, willingness, and commitment to partner with the states towards addressing these issues.

Recently, he approved the release of N3 billion to each state of the federation to address some of these challenges so that all parts of the federation should have buy-in and belonging.”

JAMB Ordered To Remit N3B To FG By House of Representatives

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been ordered by the House of Representatives to remit N3.602 billion to the Federal Government Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF).

Rep. Bamidele Salam, the Chairman, Public Accounts Committee, who gave the order during an investigative hearing in Abuja, said that the remittance was not one that is subject to personal interpretation.

He said that it was a matter of law or regulation, and had nothing to do with the difference between the 25 percent and 50 percent as argued by JAMB.

The Committee unanimously ordered that JAMB should pay the sum to the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, FRC, and provide evidence of the remittance within 30 days.

Recall that the FRC had dragged JAMB before the committee over unremitted operating surplus.

Mr Bello Aliyu, the representative of FRC, said that as of 2021, and in agreement with the record submitted to the Committee, the liabilities were N390.725 million.

According to him, “after the submission of that report, JAMB has submitted their 2022 audited financial statement; we have computed the liabilities and duly informed them.

“The new liability as of 2022 is N3.602 billion. We have notified them via our letter written on March 14, and another reminder, which we just submitted as of August 31.”

“There was no response to the letter from the board,” he said.

Mr Mufutau Bello, Director, Finance and Administration, JAMB, while reacting to the allegation, said that the difference in remittances figure was that FRC wanted to move the board to 50 per cent of revenue.

“As an organisation in 2019, because of our commitment to revenue remittance, the Federal Government reduced the cost of our registration from N5,000 to N3,500,” he said.

This, according to him, was for the benefits of all Nigerians, “as we have been following with passion a remittance of 25 per cent on a yearly basis, and we are in the education sector.

“We have not increased any of our charges in the last 8 years; rather, we reduced the fee from N5000 to N3500, which is 30 per cent of our revenue.”

“The Accountant-General always gives us the concession to operate 25 per cent of remittances,” he said.

He said that the FRC believed that the board should move to 50 per cent, as against the 25 per cent concession given by the Office of the Accountant-General, which is the area of difference.

“If you judge us on 25 per cent, we have over-remitted over the years, and that’s what we have been doing,”

Amid Hardship, Zamfara Gov. Yari Donates 44 Jeeps To APC Leaders, Furnishes Office With ₦400m

The Zamfara chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended Sen. Abdulaziz Yari (APC-Zamfara West) for providing a myriad of welfare packages to the party’s members and other disadvantaged citizens of the state.

This is in an appreciation letter to Sen. Abdulaziz Yari signed by the State APC Chairman, Tukur Danfulani, made available to newsmen in Gusau on Monday.

Danfulani said the letter was addressed to the National Chairman of the party and former Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje.

“We appreciate Sen. Yari for his continuous assistance and welfare packages to his constituents and citizens in the state.

“The State APC chapter is happy to inform the national leadership under Dr Abdullahi Ganduje that we are commending Sen Yari for his concern to less-privileged families in the state,” he said.

Danfulani said that it can only speak on the impact of the last year between September 2023 and September 2024, “for want of space.”

“The Zamfara APC is highly impressed over Sen. Yari’s kind gesture to the party leaders and the APC members and entire members of the state.

“Part of the gesture is providing and furnishing of the state APC Secretariat worth over ₦400 million situated along Sokoto Bye-Pass Road, Gusau the state capital.

“In September 2023, Yari donated 145 trailer loads of maize which were distributed free of charge to the party members and other people of the state in order to ease their hardship.

“During the 2024 Eid-El-Fitr celebration, Yari released 358 trailer loads of rice, sugar, millet, maize and guinea corn and 340 cows to the party executives and other categories of beneficiaries.

“The Senator also donated 28 trailer loads of rice which were distributed free of charge to the party members to celebrate the Eid-El-Kabir festivals,” he added.

Danfulani also expressed the party’s appreciation over the provision of 75 trailer loads of fertiliser by Yari sold at a 50% discount to farmers in the state.

In addition, Yari donated 44 Highlander Jeeps to ease the transportation needs of some party executives at the state and local government levels.

“Ahead of the recent end of bad governance protests, Yari came down to the state and appealed for calm and understanding.

“On the recent flood disaster which ravaged thousands of houses and rendered thousands of households homeless in Gummi Local Government Area of the state, the Senator donated immediate relief materials to the victims.

“The relief materials comprised five trailer loads of rice, five trailer loads of maize, five trailer loads of millet, 10,000 mattresses and 10,000 blankets.

“The Senator has already begun the reconstruction of over 5,000 houses to resettle the victims.

“Just last week, on the 4 September, Yari donated 200 trailer loads of maize for free distribution to the needy and less-privileged persons across the state.

"This is to reduce the tension caused by the current economic hardship faced by the people,” Danfulani explained.

NAFDAC Orders Recall Of Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has raised alarm over Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap (100g) with batch number 81832M 08, produced in Germany.

NAFDAC ordered the recall of the product due to the presence of a chemical impurity.

NAFDAC said the product violates the Cosmetic Products Regulation by containing Butylphenyl Methylpropional, also known as Lilial, a chemical associated with serious health risks.

In a statement on its website on Monday, the agency explained that BMHCA has been banned in cosmetic products because it can harm the reproductive system and potentially affect the health of unborn children.

It added that the chemical has been linked to skin sensitisation, triggering allergic reactions in some users.

The statement read, “The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is alerting the public about the recall of Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap (100g) with batch number 81832M 08, produced in Germany, due to chemical impurity.

“The product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation, as it contains Butylphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA), which is prohibited due to its risks of reproductive harm, danger to unborn children, and potential for causing skin sensitization. Several regulatory authorities in the EU have already banned its marketing.”

Other Dove cosmetic products recalled/banned in other countries due to the presence of BMHCA are Derma Spa Goodness, Men Care, Men Care+ Sensitive Shield, Natural Touch, Nourishing Body Care Light Hydro, Pampering Body Lotion, Go Fresh, Talco con Crema, Go fresh Pera, Extra Fresh, Goodness3 Skincare Ritual, invisible dry antiperspirant spray + Go Fresh Revitalize nourishing shower gel, Caring hand wash and invisible dry.

The agency said the soaps are not on its database.

NAFDAC urged the public to be cautious and vigilant within the supply chain to avoid the importation, distribution, sale and use of the products.

It said, “Importation of soaps is prohibited in Nigeria as per the restricted and import prohibition list. Beyond the import restrictions soaps and cosmetics are parts of the items ineligible for foreign exchange to import in Nigeria.

“These products are also not available in the NAFDAC database. Importers, distributors, retailers and consumers are advised to exercise caution and vigilance within the supply chain to avoid the importation, distribution, sale and use of the above-mentioned products. Members of the public in possession of the product should discontinue the sale or use and submit stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.”

NAFDAC also urged health experts to report adverse events experienced with the use of regulated products to its nearest office.

The statement added, “Healthcare professionals and consumers are encouraged to report adverse events experienced with the use of regulated products to the nearest NAFDAC office, via [email protected], E-reporting platforms available at www.nafdac.gov.ng or via the Med-safety application for download on android and IOS stores.”

APC Debunks Involvement In Tinubu’s 2027 Campaign Billboard

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that it is not behind the billboard in Abuja promoting President Bola Tinubu to run for office in 2027.

The large billboard was spotted on Monday along the busy Area One axis of the Federal Capital Territory.

The billboard, which has the picture of the President and his wife, Oluremi read, “Grassroots support for Tinubu 2027, the 1019 initiative “

The display sign, which boldly hints at Tinubu’s potential re-election bid, sparked discussions, among passersby commuters among others plying the road.

However, the National Publicity Director of the ruling APC, Bala Ibrahim, said the party is not behind the billboard.

Speaking to Punch, Ibrahim said the party was unaware of the campaign billboard.

He, however, did not rule out the possibility of such a billboard being sponsored by groups or loyalists of the President.

He said, “At the party and personal level, I am not aware. If you have seen it, you may wish to check. It could have been done by a group or individuals.

“Usually, such banners and billboards carry the identity of the sponsors beneath. Look around to see if it carries the inscription of the party. Otherwise, it is not from us.”
