If you know Manfred Krug, you probably know him as an actor. In our why do birds composer and producer Johannes Lehninger‘s family home, he was first and foremost a musician.

Krugs records played constantly. His concerts were a given. Jazz, soul, blues, pop: long before Johannes had words for any of it.

Growing up in East Germany, Krug was also part of the conversations at the dinner table. About art, attitude, and why his move to the West after the Biermann affair mattered. Not as history lessons, but as lived experience.
Only years later, from the perspective of a composer and producer, did the full picture come into focus: the sophistication of the arrangements, the sharpness of the lyrics, the weight and ease of that voice.

Manfred Krug was a singular artist. And an essential part of Johannes’ personal soundtrack.

He would have turned 89 today. And yes, he’s still playing.

Johannes Lehniger, Composer & Producer at why do birds
As a kid in East Germany, Johannes didn’t just listen to Lennon, he studied him, built Playmobil Beatles with matchstick mics, learned the Imagine intro on the piano at 12, and started his first band not long after.

He was only one year old when Lennon was shot.
But that one year of existing on the same planet was enough to make him fan for life.

Siemens Sonic Branding: Innovation, orchestrated

Siemens is a true pioneer in Sonic Branding. Their first holistic sonic identity dates back to as early as 2002. We’ve had the privilege of working with them since 2016. Like no other brand, Siemens continues to evolve, and so does its sound. Most recently, it was featured at the Werner von Siemens Awards, where the company honours outstanding innovators and their contributions.

Our Creative Director Leopold Hoepner joined the preparations in Munich, where we adapted the Siemens composition for a chamber ensemble setting. The aim was to bring our guiding principle — “electronic mindset, acoustic performance” — into an expressive live interpretation, together with selected string and woodwind musicians.

Since the beginning of the year, we have been working on the Sonic Branding of – a US Mutual Insurance Company that offers auto, home and life insurance.

We partnered with , their lead advertising agency to create a sound that brings their brand promise and tagline “Empathy is our best policy” to life.

The sonic branding has just been launched and already won Gold at the Transform Awards North America. Last month it debuted in the new Amica Fall campaign.
