Massives Tiefdruckgebiet mitten über dem Atlantik, daher müssen wir die Kanaren nicht auf Backbord liegen lassen, sondern dürfen am westlichen Ende von Lanzarote direkt nach Süd Richtung Kapverden ablaufen.
Das Routing sagt tief nach Süden; wahrscheinlich insgesamt über 3.500 Seemeilen bei wenig Wind.

Food on a Volvo Ocean Racer:
Freeze-dried austronaut food; just add boiling water, stir and wait for eight minutes and you have an astonishingly nutritious and tasty meal – here mashed potatoes with minced meat and cheese from Decathlon.
From the outside all looks fine environmentaly – recycled paper for the packaging. Unfortunately for a number of reasons the inside is coated with plastic.
So this ends either into a landfill, is "thermo-recycled" or ends up in our oceans – with all the other packagings…

In Germany, we still consider ourselfves world champions in environmental protection, when in fact we are European champions in producing plastic and exporting plastic trash. 8% of the plastic trash in the arctic is of German origin!

This has to change. WE have to change.

Plastikmüll gelangt selbst in entlegene Weltregionen wie die Arktis und belastet dort das Ökosystem. Eine neue Studie - entstanden unter Mithilfe von Arktis-Reisenden - zeigt: Ein Teil des Mülls stammt aus deutscher Produktion.

The Arctic is full of plastic.

Already in 2022 a study showed that the arctic is simmilaly poluted with plastic and micro plastic as densly populated areas on the globe.

Now a study by the Alfred-Wegener-Institute shows that the arctic is turning into a final resting place for debris from all over the world transported there by the gulf stream.

A third of the plastic polution on the beaches of Spitzbergen/Svalbard can be traced to Europe; 8% of the overall plastic polution coming from Germany.

On a beach combing mission in may 2022 deep inside Isfjorden about 30 miles from the open sea I was devastated by the amout of garbage we collected.

The Arctic is already suffering most under climate change, temepratures rising four times faster than elsewhere on the planet.

If the oceans die, we all die.

When dolphins follow your boat or you see whales, it is always an incredible moment, not matter how often you experienced it before.

Plastic is a terrible danger to these wonderful creatures.

der hier gerade Boris und seinem Team den Preis für den dritten Platz bei der ersten Etappe für die IMOCAs überreicht.

In Deutschland scheinen wir ja eher einen Minister der Autobahnen zu haben.
