ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: MY LADY NI****NE: Lucy Hutchings
Lucy Hutchings paints the strange theatre of the night. Her work captures moments when inhibition slips and behaviour turns carnivalesque. Figures gather in scenes of debauchery and uneasy intimacy, where mouths open, laughter distorts and the body becomes both seductive and grotesque.
Working with figurative painting, Hutchings explores shame, pleasure and the absurd rituals that emerge when social conditioning loosens. Orifices, bodily fluids and exaggerated expressions push her imagery into territory that is both alluring and unsettling.
Lucy Hutchings (b. 2001, Hong Kong) is a London based painter and recent MA Fine Art graduate of City & Guilds of London Art School.
Lucy Hutchings is one of nine artists exhibiting in My Lady Ni****ne, the inaugural exhibition at Woodward Henry, Bompas & Parr’s new gallery space. Our first exhibition will explore ni****ne as ritual, vice and cultural symbol.
