The Bureau Oberhaeuser Calendar 2022 “Overshooting Boundaries” is finally here. 🎉

What would our world look like if each country would be big enough to supply their citizens consumption demand per capita? This calendar aims to provide a new perspective on the globally important issue of disproportionate resource consumption.

Inspired by the data from the Global Foodprint Network for the World Overshoot Day we designed a world map that visualizes the size of each country based on the consumption demand per capita (Ecological Footprint) vs. the available resources per country (Biocapacity). Countries with populations that consume more resources than available appear larger than their actual size (and vice versa).

The country-specific markers highlight on which date the Earth Overshoot Day would fall, if we all lived like the people in the corresponding country. The sooner a country reaches this Overshoot Day, the more disproportional is its resource consumption.

365 days of the past year have given us insights into enormous amounts of data on an unexpected topic: A pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 Virus. The data visualization is a retrospective and a small monitor for a hopefully awaited return to normality. Until then, all we can say is stay strong, stay healthy and let’s flatten the curve!

In 2020 nothing has been normal. To follow that rule we won’t publish our calendar at the usual time in December and instead wait until early January… Ok, the actual reason is that we want to have a complete set of data for 2020. 😉 Stay tuned and above all stay positive! 2021 will be better!
