Just because you love a colour doesn’t mean it loves you back.
I have been a style coach for nearly 10 years and colour is the thing most women get wrong. Not because they have bad taste. Because nobody ever explained how colour actually works.
So here it is.
Colour has visual weight. Light colours expand and dark colours contract. A white top makes the upper body appear larger. A dark trouser makes the lower body appear smaller. Which means you can completely change how your body reads without buying a single new piece. Just move the light and move the dark.
Your best colour belongs next to your face. The one that makes your skin glow and your eyes come alive. That is where it does it’s most powerful work. And colours outside your personal palette pull attention away from your face and toward the clothes. Your face should always be where the attention is.
A colour break between your upper body and bottom shortens the silhouette, be aware of this and place the waist where you want it to sit.A belt in the same tone as your trouser creates one uninterrupted line and the eye follows it all the way down.
Monochromatic dressing creates the illusion of a longer, taller silhouette. No colour break means the eye travels the full length of the body without stopping.
And a strong colour placed at the wrong point on the body becomes an anchor. The eye lands there and stays. Colour is always telling the eye where to look so make sure it is looking exactly where you want it to.
The right colour in the right place. That is really all it takes.
Episode 3: Texture is coming soon.
Save this and share it with someone who has been wearing colours they love but that have never quite felt right. 👇
