BUILT TO HIT. For Berlin Art Week 2026, Michael Sailstorfer’s „Pull the Rug“-installation turns the solid ground of the gallery into something far less certain. At regular intervals, a gallery attendant removes a paving stone from the floor and feeds it through a narrow slit into a second room hidden from view.
What happens next remains out of sight. You hear the impact, feel the vibrations and are left wondering what is happening behind the wall.
Sailstorfer doesn’t illustrate uncertainty. He builds it into the space, quite literally pulling the ground from beneath your feet.
