🇩🇪 Spannende Talks, viel Inspiration und tolle Begegnungen in einer freundlichen, inklusiven Atmosphäre verspricht alljährlich die Smashing Conference in Freiburg – und das ist keinesfalls zu viel versprochen. Die Konferenz wird mit sehr viel Herzblut und Liebe zum Detail organisiert, von der Auswahl der Redner:innen, dem Rahmenprogramm bis zum Merchandise, dass man sich rundum gut versorgt, informiert und wilkommen fühlt – ideale Voraussetzungen, um das Beste aus den vier Tagen mitzunehmen.

Das Line-Up der Gäste kam von so namhaften Unternehmen wie Mozilla, Spotify, Figma oder der Nielsen Norman Group und deckte ein breites Spektrum an Themen ab, von modernem CSS bis hin zum Interface-Design in Live Talks und interaktiven Sessions.

Wie jedes Jahr eine Konferenz mit echtem Mehrwert – wir freuen uns schon auf das nächste Jahr!

🇬🇧 Every year, the Smashing Conference in Freiburg promises exciting talks, plenty of inspiration and wonderful encounters in a friendly, inclusive atmosphere – and that is by no means an exaggeration. The conference is organised with a great deal of passion and attention to detail – from the selection of speakers and the supporting programme right through to the merchandise – ensuring that you feel well looked after, informed and welcome in every way – ideal conditions for making the most of the four days.

🇩🇪 Für den Kompetenzführer bei Verbindungslösungen in der Industrie, die Böllhoff Automation GmbH, entwickelten wir mit HELIO ein neues User Interface.

🇬🇧 With HELIO, we developed a new user interface for Böllhoff Automation GmbH, the leading provider of industrial fastening solutions.

With its user-centred operating concept, the new HMI combines flexibility with intuitive, safe operation and, thanks to its modern look and feel, ensures consistent, efficient and error-free use in day-to-day production.

Böllhoff is one of HELIO’s first customers and has supported and helped shape its development from the very beginning – from the early stages of the project right through to the current version. As a beta user, Böllhoff receives new versions even before their official release. Feedback directly from the shop floor is thus incorporated immediately into the further development of HELIO.

🇩🇪 Nur weil gerade Urlaubszeit ist, heißt das nicht, dass wir nicht ständig daran arbeiten, HELIO zu verbessern und zu erweitern. Seit heute steht die neue Version 26.2 von HELIO zur Verfügung – und sie hat spannende neue Features im Gepäck:

Wir haben das Bearbeiten von Rezepten deutlich verbessert und vereinfacht: Mit den neuen Parametertabellen können Rezeptparameter direkt im HMI bearbeitet werden – in einer durchsuchbaren und filterbaren Liste, die sich an jede beliebige Anzahl von Parametern anpassen lässt.

Das 2D-Diagrammelement kann nun mehrere Datensätze gleichzeitig darstellen, wobei jeder Datensatz eine eigene Linienstärke und Farbe hat, damit auch komplexe Diagramme auf einen Blick lesbar bleiben.

🇬🇧 Just because it's vacation season doesn't mean we aren't constantly working to improve and expand HELIO. As of today, the new version 26.2 of HELIO is available—and it comes with some exciting new features:

We have significantly improved and simplified the process of editing recipes: The new Parameter Table lets you edit recipe parameters directly in the HMI, in a searchable, filterable list that scales to any parameter count.

The 2D Plot element can now plot several datasets at once, each with its own line thickness and color, to keep even dense charts readable at a glance.

🇩🇪 Was für ein Lauf! Beim WVV Firmenlauf 2026 hatte unser HMI Project Racing Team nicht nur die Uhr, sondern auch die tropischen Temperaturen als Gegner. Erschwerend hinzu kam die geänderte Streckenführung, bei der die Laufstrecke um einen Kilometer auf 8,5 km erhöht wurde.

Die Teilnahme ist für uns ein fester Bestandteil des sommerlichen Terminkalenders. Unser in diesem Jahr achtköpfiges Teilnehmerteam überzeugte mit vollem Einsatz (Fränzi war extra angereist) und internationalem Flair (unser französischer Praktikant Aurélien war von den hohen Temperaturen in “Nordeuropa” ganz schön überrascht).

Gratulation an unseren firmeninternen Titelverteidiger Johannes, der trotz Hitze eine sagenhafte Zeit von unter 40 Minuten lief und damit einen beeindruckenden Platz 134 von 2156 Teilnehmer:innen belegte. Danke an das sehr engagierte Team, danke auch an die Veranstalter, die wie immer ein toll organisiertes Event auf die Beine gestellt haben.

🇬🇧 What a run! At the 2026 WVV Company Run, our HMI Project Racing Team faced not only the clock but also the tropical temperatures. To make matters worse, the route had been altered, increasing the running distance by one kilometre to 8.5 km.

The Company Run is a fixed date in our summer calendar. Our team of eight participants this year impressed with their total commitment (Fränzi had travelled specially for the event) and international flair (our French intern Aurélien was quite surprised by the high temperatures in ‘Northern Europe’).

Congratulations to our in-house title defender Johannes, who, despite the heat and knee problems, ran a fabulous time of under 40 minutes, securing an impressive 134th place out of 2,156 participants. Thank you to the highly committed team, and thank you also to the organisers, who, as always, put on a superbly organised event.

🇩🇪 Zu Beginn von User Interface Projekten hören wir oft die falsche Frage:
„Welches Framework ist das Beste für unsere Projekt?"

Die eigentliche Frage wird dabei selten gestellt:
”Wie muss das System auf die Bedürfnisse der User ausgerichtet werden?”

Gutes UX-Design ist technologieunabhängig. Bevor auch nur ein einziger Button platziert wird, müssen wir verstehen:
– Wer steht in Zukunft vor diesem Interface?
– Unter welchen Bedingungen werden Entscheidungen getroffen? Auf Basis welcher Informationen?
– Wieviel kostet ein Fehler – eine ausgefallene Maschine – pro Stunde, pro Tag?

Diese Antworten bestimmen maßgeblich die Informationsarchitektur, die Hierarchie von Alarmen, die Logik der Navigation. Die Technologie kommt danach. Sie ist das Werkzeug, nicht die Antwort.

Wir erleben das immer wieder: Wer bei der Gestaltung Tool-getrieben vorgeht, baut Interfaces, die die Möglichkeiten des Tools spiegeln. Wer mit dem Menschen beginnt, baut Interfaces, die die Anforderungen der User spiegeln.

Das beste HMI ist nicht das, welches auf der neuesten Plattform läuft. Es ist das, mit dem jemand in 10 Jahren noch sicher und effizient arbeiten kann.

Technologie wechselt. Gutes Design überlebt.

Sie planen ein neues HMI oder haben das Gefühl, dass Ihre bestehende Oberfläche Potenzial verschenkt? Wir freuen uns über den Austausch. Egal mit welcher Technologie sie arbeiten möchten.

🇬🇧 At the start of user interface projects, we often hear the wrong question:
“Which framework is best for our project?”

The real question is rarely asked:
“How must the system be tailored to users’ needs?”

Good UX design is technology-agnostic. Before a single button is placed, we need to understand:
– Who will be sitting in front of this screen in the future?
– Under what conditions are decisions made? Based on what information?
– How much does a fault – a machine breakdown – cost per hour, per day?

These answers determine the information architecture, the hierarchy of alerts, and the logic of navigation. The technology comes afterwards. It is the tool, not the answer.

We see this time and time again: those who start with the choice of tool build interfaces that reflect the tool’s capabilities – not people’s needs.

Those who start with the people build interfaces that work.

The best HMI isn’t the one that runs on the latest platform. It’s the one that someone can still use safely and efficiently in 10 years’ time.

Technology changes. Good design survives.

Wir freuen uns ganz besonders, heute das erste Release des Jahres vorzustellen: Mit der neuen Version wird HELIO noch offener, flexibler, sicherer und leistungsstärker:

+ Die neue API öffnet HELIO für Skripte, Anwendungen und KI-Agenten, wodurch Arbeitsabläufe ermöglicht werden, die über die Möglichkeiten der Benutzeroberfläche allein hinausgehen. Die API ist aktuell in der Early Access-Phase, bei Interesse wendet euch an unser Team.

🇩🇪 Neues User Interface für Maschinen der WAFIOS Umformtechnik GmbH mit HELIO: Im Rahmen der Fachmesse “wire and Tube” 2026 in Düsseldorf präsentierte WAFIOS Umformtechnik sein neues Benutzerinterface für drahtverarbeitende Maschinen mit schneller Übersicht der Anlagenperformance und -effizienz, intuitiver Bedienoberfläche und KI Assistenz.

“Schnell Prototypen zu erstellen und an der echten Maschine auszuprobieren, hat uns voll überzeugt. So konnten wir im Entwicklungsprozess sehr effizient und agil arbeiten. Das HELIO SDK bietet uns die Möglichkeit eigene Erweiterungen und Controls zu entwickeln.” sagt Kaveh Jaberzadeh, Projektverantwortlicher bei WAFIOS Umformtechnik.

WAFIOS Umformtechnik nutzt die Plattform CtrlX mit HELIO aus dem CtrlX Store.

🇬🇧 New user interface for WAFIOS Umformtechnik GmbH machines with HELIO: At the “wire and Tube” 2026 trade fair in Düsseldorf, WAFIOS Umformtechnik presented its new user interface for wire processing machines, featuring a quick overview of system performance and efficiency, an intuitive user interface and AI assistance.

“Being able to create prototypes quickly and test them on the actual machine really won us over. It allowed us to work very efficiently and flexibly throughout the development process. The HELIO SDK gives us the opportunity to develop our own extensions and controls,” says Kaveh Jaberzadeh, project manager at WAFIOS Umformtechnik.

WAFIOS uses the CtrlX platform with HELIO from the CtrlX Store.
