Five tips for how to design your Service Design portfolio, taken from a portfolio bootcamp we were running for our master students at Aalborg University.
Service Design portfolios are one of a kind ✨
Generally far from a show of perfectly-finished products, Service Design projects harbor, on the other hand, precious information on the designer’s skills in the process. However, approaching the presentation of Service Design projects can be an overwhelming and hazardous always-evolving journey 🤦🤷♂️
In the last two months, our master students have participated in a Portfolio Bootcamp and developed their portfolios. Aware as we are of how challenging it may be to curate and communicate this information in an effective and value-oriented way, we have resumed 5 essential tips to keep in mind when approaching the design of a Service Design portfolio (a full design project in itself!).
🧑💻 Service Design mostly creates intangible outcomes so present the process, the context and the reactions from the people involved
🧑💻 Show both the tools and methods you used and their subsequent outcomes
👨💻 Make it visual! Use images, videos, charts, and sketches to illustrate the context, describe the process, and add a personal touch.
🧑💻 Highlight the following aspects: What was the goal? What was the outcome? What did you achieve?
👩💻 Present the value of the project: For the client, for the user, for the other stakeholders, and for the society in general.
What are your best tips when creating a Service Design portfolio? We would love to hear your opinion! 🧐
