If I hear one more person say
“just translate the caption”…
I might lose it a little.
People often assume bilingual writing is easy, especially if you’re strong in the source language.
But it’s rarely that simple.
A phrase that works perfectly in English can feel slightly off when translated directly into Arabic (or any other language), and vice versa.
The meaning might technically be correct, but the tone, rhythm, and audience expectations don’t always translate.
Over time I realized the real challenge isn’t translation.
It’s adaptation.
When I work on bilingual accounts, I usually think about three things:
1️⃣ What is the post actually trying to say?
The core message needs to stay clear.
2️⃣ What tone should it carry?
Should it feel premium, informative, promotional, or conversational?
3️⃣ How does the audience engage in that language?
Reading habits, expectations, and even diction can vary between markets.
The goal isn’t just translating words.
It’s making sure the message still feels natural and aligned with the brand in both languages.
Ideally, the audience shouldn’t feel like they’re reading a translation at all.
