نسترجع المقترح المرفوض الذي صممناه لهوية الجناح الوطني لدولة الإمارات في الدورة الـ18 لمعرض العمارة في البندقية 2023. تناول هذا التوجه الجَدَبَ وَالوَفْرَةَ كحالات شبحية ماضوية، حيث تستمر أرواح المياة والوديان والبيئات السابقة في الوجود تحت ما يُسَمَّى اليوم بالأراضي “القَاحِلَةِ”.
اعتمدت الهوية على التباين بين الخطوط المرسومة والمجوفة، والخط اليدوي مقابل الطباعي، لتسأل: كيف يبدو غياب الحياة، وكيف يستمر أثره؟ يسعى المقترح إلى إعادة صياغة لغة الجفاف، ويستقصي كيفية تأثير القراءات الاستعمارية والجيوسياسية والأنثروبولوجية على فهمنا وتمثيلنا للأرض. ومن خلال ذلك، حاولنا أن نفدم المشهد الطبيعي ليس كفراغ، بل كمكان للوفرة الهادئة، والذاكرة، والحضور غير المكتمل.

A brief throwback to the rejected proposal we designed for the visual identity of the National Pavilion of the UAE at the 18th Architecture Biennale di Venezia (2023). This direction explored aridity and abundance as hauntological states, environments where the ghosts of water, valleys, and past ecologies linger beneath today’s so-called “arid” terrains.
The identity juxtaposed outlined versus filled forms, hand script versus mechanical type, and absence versus presence to ask: What does the lack of life look like, and how does its memory persist? The proposal sought to unravel the language of dryness, questioning how colonial, geopolitical, and anthropocentric interpretations shape our understanding and representation of land. In doing so, it sought to render the landscape not as empty, but as a site of quiet abundance, memory, and unresolved presence.
